Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

Got another mow in today. My northern mix is starting to look pretty good. I can’t believe how far it’s come after being in this house for right at a year. https://s7.postimg.cc/8zx560o87/C2_DFDD54-00_A2-492_C-806_C-3611_D9_AB3715.jpg https://s7.postimg.cc/lejx6cng7/FEAF1_B19-1_DD8-4_F70-_B78_C-9_F1...

Re: double_e5's Soil Test - 2018

I kept on them in the fall once the temperature broke and did a pretty good job on them. I’m just now seeing them rear their ugly heads again, but they are much more sparse and don’t look real healthy so far this spring. Hopefully, I can get the last word with the Triclopyr this year.

Thanks Hoosier! Good to hear I will be sticking with the same program. Now if I could just finish off these damn wild violets once and for all!

double_e5's Soil Test - 2018

Back for a 2018 interpretation. Here is a link to my 2017 soil test: https://aroundtheyard.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=22472 Background: 9.5K of northern mix that is looking pretty good early in the spring after a year of owning the home. Last year, I dropped 2 lbs/K of 0-46-0 three times over ...

Re: Where Is The Forsythia Line?

I’m not sure what that is, but it doesn’t look like any forsythia I’ve ever seen. Forsythia buds are more cone shaped.

Got my first mow in on the front yard today. It’s growing pretty uneven with my northern mix, but looks a whole lot better after a cut.

Re: Will tenacity work on this

The grassy weed looks like another type of fescue to me, possibly KY31. For the broad leaf weeds, it looks like clover and maybe some creeping charlie. You don’t need Tenacity for either of these. I’d wait for someone else to confirm the ID on the grassy stuff, but your solutions for that are to pul...

Re: Tenacity for... Oak Tree Prevention?

I have a large pin oak that drops a ton of acorns and in my experience mowing does work, but it takes a few times to kill them. I've had some luck spraying them with Triclopyr (while fighting wild violets) and it seems to work a little faster than mowing. The best way is to just pull them, but with ...

Re: Thoughts on Ego versus Kobalt cordless mowers?

Nice comparison! I'm still not quite there yet on a battery powered mower, but I have the Kobalt 80v trimmer and love it. I plan on adding the blower next so I can ditch the mixed gas altogether.

And another question, is a pgr good here to help limit the mowing intervals or does it interfere with the regimens at all?
I don't know if anyone has any updated experience with PGR and the regimen, but note (7) in the first post covers it.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?

Mowed at 3.75", trimmed, and blew.

Lawn looks terrible after 2 weeks of 90-100 degree temperatures and then getting almost 10" of rain this last week. The only things looking OK are the wild violets and crabgrass...

Mowed at 3.75" yesterday. Dropped Milorganite at bag rate with 3 tbsp/K of 20 Mule Team and watered it in.

Mowed at 3.75" and trimmed. Lawn looks pretty good after over 2" of rain last weekend and a decent shower this morning.

Re: Urea Spreader Setting

You obviously haven't bought a bag of Urea yet. It doesn't come with pictures and instructions on the bag. It is a brown paper bag that says "Loveland 46-0-0", and nothing more. There is no way that you're going to get spreader rates for that -- so how do you figure that you're going to set the spr...

Re: Urea Spreader Setting

I'm still trying to wrap my head around what weighing urea has to do with the spreader setting... Quite simply, weighing the product tells you when you are done. If I'm applying Urea at 1 lb/K to a 15K area, I am done when 15 lbs have been applied. Whether I apply it in one pass or three, I'm done ...

Re: Urea Spreader Setting

If you're spoon feeding it at 1 lb/K, just do what you've been doing in the dogleg area. You won't make a big enough mistake to hurt anything.

Mowed at 3.75". Raised the HOC from 3.25" and only mowed once this week after the 90+ temps we've been having here. Rain is in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow, so hopefully we get some. We need it!
