Re: PR holding color best this Winter
There is one lawn on the corner of my street that I believe is mostly PRG and always seems to green up quickly in the spring, but gets brutalized over the summer. I'll have to look at it when I have a chance, to see how the winter color is holding up.

Re: Grains from TSC
some of the alfalfa for horses has less 'filler' (vitamins, etc.) and more actual alfalfa. However, some of the pellets do not feed well through all spreaders. You may want to start with just one bag... Any tips on picking an alfalfa pellet that might flow through a spreader? Any particular ones to...

Re: Seed type for poor soil area
I think jglongisland had Bedazzled at his old house. You should be able to look up some of his old threads, and find some good info. It may be just what you need unless you want a dark, elite kbg. It's lighter than most of the elite kbgs most folks are using and would stand out against Blueberry, wh...

Re: Bad idea to buy seed in Winter?
I'm also another one who has stored my seed in the freezer. I do it for all of the reasons above, especially for the reason you are concerned about. I freeze it to cause the seed husk to split, to decrease time from sowing to germination. It is an old landscaper's trick I was taught about 15 years a...

I walked on it a little to pick a few sticks off of it and fill up the bird feeder. I enjoyed seeing a little greenup and recovery from a late season fungal outbreak, since the recent cold spell we had. I wish all a healthy, happy, holiday season. Happy New Year and best wishes for 2019!

Maybe you could blow the leaves to the perimeter and mulch them at a later date.

Re: Snow cover anyone?
Had 3"-4" of sloppy, wet snow which basically melted by Friday morning. I picked up about a snowball's worth in my southward facing front yard before I mulched leaves this afternoon.

Mowed back with bag on to provide chopped leaves for the vegetable garden. Side discharged front lawn and finished in the dark with my son's LED bicycle headlight.

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens
I haven't done much of anything as we have snow cover. I put up a separate post of snow cover now and wondering what to do? What is your average first frost date? If your weather pattern changes and you get enough of a warm up within the proper time window, to melt the snow cover, you might be able...

Nice, Andy! Maybe some of those folks will try mulching, get "the lawn bug", and come over to ATY.

jimmo,
Does he use any preM? Most of those mature kbg lawns don't need too much nitrogen. It sounds like your Dad has it squared away pretty well.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
The last two days have been me running home and mulching as much leaves before I cant see in front of me anymore. I've resorted to borrowing my son's LED bicycle headlight. I finished mulching leaves in the dark on Saturday using it and it worked great! It has a silicone-based elastic band that I s...

Yes. You are correct on both accounts. I did get some attention however, for drudging up an old thread. Now, the real trick is to get an update from derek_s.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
Blew leaves off six small mini-reno/overseeded areas in the backyard and mulched leaves this morning. At high noon, rain came down in buckets while I was out. When I got home, it looked like I did nothing, so I took the blower out and blew off those areas again. It was still worth it, because the te...

Bump
derek_s,
I know this is a few years old, but I'm curious what your POA was, and what results were achieved, if you're still active on ATY.
I'm working on a POA for next year under my Norway Maple, and I'm considering trying some foliar feedings during the growing season.

Re: Heads-Up: It's Time to Talk "Leaf Mulching"!
Did another blow in from the street with a double pass. First was at 2.5” 2nd was at 2.0” Overall, not very happy with the leaf particle size left over. I dont think its anything to do with horsepower or bladesharpness but rather suction. On the second pass it looked like my mower was throwing the ...

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
Almost all of the leaves came down today due to high wind...not cool. No more Fall foliage. Just bits here and there. Sounds like you have a lot of mulching to do tomorrow. ;) Your soil temps should be relatively warm enough to get the microherd to digest them. I pulverized them today, hoping they ...
