Re: Chlorosis/yellowing
I just looked it up on Wikipedia and it says it's low chlorophyll production caused by insufficient nutrients. Have any soil test results to look at?

Re: Lat Summer and Fall Fertilizer Options
Anything that's water soluble, like urea or blood meal. The purpose is the grass takes up a lot of nutrients at that time of year to harden off for winter and store for growth next spring.

Re: Lat Summer and Fall Fertilizer Options
You can do as much organic as your budget allows. Go crazy. You ought to consider doing a quick release app once the grass stops growing and before the ground freezes at 1lb per 1k sq ft.

If they are mulched that will help a great deal retaining the moisture. Keep the soil slightly damp for the first week or so. Best practice is the check by touch and make sure it's dark black and slightly damp. If it is, just leave it. Water for a solid two to three minutes each time.

Re: Brown spot or dead grass?
I need to dethatch this fall for sure I think that will help with the airflow correct? I appreciate the help. Yes that will help for sure as will removing any brush or tree limbs that may be blocking air flow. I just removed a bunch of brush in my back yard and was amazed how much breezier it made ...

Re: aug0211's Newbie Midwest Reno (Bewitched)
Ok I've had a few cups of coffee now. It looks like my second reply never got posted. If I'm reading it right this time, you've scalped before spraying. Stop scalping and let your grass grow out before spraying. The grass has to soak up the glyphosate through the leaves in order for it to work.

Re: aug0211's Newbie Midwest Reno (Bewitched)
Sorry I misinterpreted your comments about the dethatching and aerating. I thought you were suggesting you wanted tio do that after seeding, but now I understand you meant before. That's what happens when I chime in before having my first cup of morning coffee.

Thirsty to know more about incorporating p and k into fertilization regimen.
We all know that synthetic and/or soluble n feeds the grass while organic and/or insoluble n feeds the soil, which then feeds the grass. I know that p and k don't leach as much which is why there's not as much of it in fertilizer. But does that mean that is difficult to feed them directly to the gra...

...which reminds me of something I've been meaning to ask about... Does probe length matter? My thermometer is a pen-sized one, but if you use one of those landscape thermometers that's like 2 feet long, won't it be more subject to error from the air temperature? Probe length always matters, bro. :...

Re: Elite vs Scotts for Lawn
I was wondering if different cultivars were creating by genetic engineering. I am not familiar with all of horticulture techniques. I don't know much about gmos but I know in much of horticulture plants will naturally mutate and create superior offspring. It's the growers responsibility to spot whe...

Re: Ive Gone Au Naturale! Who's with me!?
What a cool experiment. I bet that soil is cool as a cucumber and the roots deep. And it doesn't look half bad! I think you gave your lawn a huge leg up on the future. Looking forward to seeing it in fall. My guess it's it's going to be amazing. Please keep us posted. I am curious though how do you ...

Also you can grate the big stuff out of it real easy just nail some 2x4s together and staple some chicken wire to it.

Re: Did I screw up by accepting this dirt
So, do this. Grab a handful of it and squeeze it. If it sticks together and is hard to pull apart, if it doesn't stick together at all and just falls apart. Good dirt should be somewhere in between. And you can always amend it if you want to.

Re: Rookie lawn care help
Question on fertilizing late fall.....Should I fertilize my entire lawn the same? Or since I'll have reseeded parts of it and applied starter fertilizer to those parts, should the overseeded parts be treated differently? Yeah you should wait a month before you apply more fert where you already put ...

Re: Elite vs Scotts for Lawn
In my front, I've planted Scotts KBG and it does just fine. My current bluegrass doesn't die in the summer, it just turns brown and goes dormant until the fall. I'm wondering if there are elite cultivars that can survive this too. I don't mind summer dormancy, but I'd like a thick lawn and dark gre...
