Re: Spring reseeding after fall fertilizer burn

I wouldn’t even rake them.

I had a spot where the spreader got stuck open and burned a 10” circle. When the spring flush came, it grew out and couldn’t tell that it was ever burned.

That's a crazy price.
I asked if they had any cheaper substitutes and they said everything is similarly jacked up.

Re: Sedgehammer in the summer?

Ive only had nutsedge pop up in the summer. So that is when I treat it.

Never used sedgehammer - only sulfentrazone. If you don't have a lot, just pull it - I know people on this site will say it doesn't work to pull - but trust me, nothing has worked as well on nutsedge as yanking them.

Still looks pretty short. Whats your HOC?

You'll see that green grass 'spread' into the brown areas as that healthy grass starts to grab morning dew.

Don't even worry about the weeds; no sense in compromising your new grass to hit some weeds. They are easy to control once the lawn establishes...

Consider fertilizing instead.

Re: KBG seed heads-mow or no?

I'm still pretty new to this game so this raises a related question for me: I had some pretty good snow mold damage this year so I've been mowing low under the assumption that this would help with tillering and thus filling in these spots....seems this may actually be hindering the process? Should ...

Re: Need Help with Lawn (Pic Included)

If that were my yard:
1. Dethatch or rake all of that dead stuff.
2. Sharpen my lawnmower blade
3. Max out my height of cut
4. Mow once a week

Thats it until youre due for your next fert.

Re: Did We Overpay for Our Core Aeration/Overseed??

Yes, you got ripped off. $0 is a fair price because I wouldn't have done any of that. I would have skipped core aeration and shampood my yard for $5, I wouldn't overseed in the spring just apply fertilizer, and I would have gotten sand or dirt to level out the yard and done it myself. You're talking...

Thats not nutsedge.

Nutsedge pops up midsummer when its really hot outside - typically in areas with poor drainage.

Re: It's March!! Time to Wake Up (and Happy Birthday ATY)

My lawn is green and slowly yawning. Did the fall aggressive plan for the 4th fall. Typically I spoon feed to get things moving - last year I didn’t spoon feed in the spring to see how it affected thing and it looked green eventually but took forever to wake up and start actively growing. I used my ...

Re: Dog spots

I like the sugar idea Morph! I have 2 dogs. One pees all over the yard and doesn’t cause any issues. The other pees on the same square foot every day. Most of the year it’s not a problem it’s usually the greenest / fastest growing grass in the yard, but the dead of summer and around this time it loo...

We had several feet of snow up until 2 days ago. Now the majority of the snow is gone. Can’t wait to power rake it, and mow.

Re: How Short is your Last Cut?

Last year I went around an inch. It looked fine but it seemed to take longer than usual in the spring to fill in. This year I’m right around 3.75”

Plan is to ‘rake’ with a dethatcher in the spring and mow down to whatever height is even.

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Mowed the last of the leaves yesterday, cleaned out all of the beds and mowed the hosta. Only cut a few blades of grass. Probably done mowing this week & dumping nitrogen, maybe one more late season mow to catch any leaves that blow into our yard. I dethatched this fall for the first time. It needed...

We use preen. It does a good enough job. I only pull a few weeds here and there.
