Does my spot/overseed plan seem good?
Heya, all. I was hoping for some confirmation that I have my ducks in a row for an upcoming seeding on the 29th. Nothing fancy. Just a neighbor that wants a green lawn. I'll get him here eventually... ;) Scenario: About 40% of 1k will be seeded with a northern mix. There's -several- scattered dead p...

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Put down a final 2 month dose of prodiamine.
1/2 app of milo with epsom. 3lbs iron.
Scattered another couple cubic feet of peat. Still hoping to hit my goal of getting a whole inch down this year.
Sprayed copper sulfate and neem on the lilac, lilies, roses, amaranth, and coleus.

Re: How is everyone making out with disease this year?
I was sticking with just Serenade apps around every five days since May, but come the end of June the lawn looked like jungle camouflage. While I eventually dialed in my watering pretty darn good this year, hose watering 1 1/2hours (just 1.2k) every 3 days through peak temperatures to get an inch we...

Re: Glypho Orchard grass before seeding
Thanks, man. I used 4oz of the dye, could see things fine. I just sprayed today. I think it went alright. Perfect conditions, very light breeze. Still a bit nerve wracking...hehe. I actually went with the dribble method. I couldn't imagine it coating the leaf better than a mist, but it looked like e...

Re: Glypho Orchard grass before seeding
Thanks guys. I practiced a little today with water. I think I can keep the damage to a minimum. I guess my main concern now is that I hit all of it on the first round. I have Mark-it-Blue. I've only tried it a couple times, as label directed, and it was never really dark enough to help. Could it pot...

I feel the same about nimblewill. It's an easy kill with tenacity, a couple 4oz/A apps and good deal of patience, but it you don't keep your eyes on it it'll make a run for it.

Re: surfactant
I believe the label says 1 1/2 tsp of non ionic surfact per gallon.
That's 7 Tbsp or 3.5 fluid ounces.
What are you spraying?

Glypho Orchard grass before seeding
I Identified some orchard grass in a friend's lawn. https://i.postimg.cc/k2Rjd7xd/20200807-073327.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/1gxvmbHV/20200807-073302.jpg He's looking to do some seeding soon. With an expected seeding date of August 30th (would be earlier if we could) do I still have enough time to kil...

Re: Creeping Charlie remover and Dethatcher.
I have PTSD just looking at that thing. I heavily dethatched around 2k a few years back. It really put the ticker to the test. FWIW: Last fall I helped a friend seed a small lawn that had a moderately dense infestation of Creeping Charlie. I almost dont like using the word "infestation," it'...

Re: Experience with lillies?
I continued with weekly applications of copper sulfate along with serenade twice per week. I never eliminated the botrytis, but it didn't take off and kill all the foliage; I think that's probably good news for next year. Probably not the most amazing looking blooms, but they're growing on me. ...

Watered this morning after applying SLS. Put down just under a 1/4" of peatmoss (2nd 1/4" this year) just before sunset. Still hoping to get an inch down this year.

Re: Root length: Is this normal?
I hope those alfalfa root stories are true; too good. I guess with all I've heard about the perils of shallow frequent irrigation, and knowing that's exactly how he waters, I expected to see a wimpy root system. I guess the sandy soil allowed enough oxygen for some roots to really go on the hunt reg...

8 foot roots? That's amazing. I didn't know that was possible.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like it's for me. I'm too prone to momentary lapses; better they happen with a bucket of milk or fish.
Truth be told, I love patchouli, but haven't used it in years out of courtesy to others. It does like to linger.

Re: Root length: Is this normal?
Wow, thanks for all of that info. The roots did have me wondering about the reasoning for a 4" testing depth, thanks for clearing that up. I appreciate the description of the soil layers. I didn't realize the progressive darkening was attributed to OM. I need a course in the Visual Literacy of Soil....

Root length: Is this normal?
I visited my uncle's house today to check up on his lawn. I was able to see a cross section view of the soil as he's in the process of building a stone retaining wall. I was kinda surprised by what I saw. https://i.postimg.cc/30j8YkCK/20200717-174511.jpg Some of those roots are over a foot long. Mak...

I can't even imagine, Morph.
I've thought about trying to make soap several times. Maybe it's the lye that always scares me off. Or maybe it's that I wear patchouli so I dont really have the need.

Re: Lactic Acid Bacteria anyone?
Cool. I'm thinking of testing it on a 100 sq ft area. Thankfully it's quick to make so I can get on it soon. Hoping to see something in the way of fungal control, but who knows. I believe it has proven effective against botrytis so I'm sure I'll give it a try in the garden and containers as well. Se...

Re: Weather radar anxiety
I barely registered a 1/4" from the storm. : / ...I debated skipping my last two BSF apps end of June and beginning of July, but with no real rainfall and humid 80deg weather, it was probably for the best... I wound up going the same route. I was going to do around a half app to deliver some micros ...

Lactic Acid Bacteria anyone?
I recently stumbled on to Korean Natural Farming. One of the methods used is to create a LAB culture from water used to wash rice combined with raw milk. In the end the serum is extracted and diluted for foilar apps or as a drench. I'm still not certain about application rate and frequency (read a f...
