Re: Crabgrass 2019 Soil Samples
Thanks Andy. I’ll grab some Sta-Green gypsum and see if it makes a difference this year. Will that push some K out of the soil? Or not enough to be worried. I would like to try and tackle micros this year. The co-op test was 2 years ago (and only in the back). Lots of starter fertilizer and Milo wen...

Spring Fertilizer Regimine
The last two years I wasn’t able to implement the fall urea applications (due to living in transition zone and grass not stopping until late December). I supplemented with miloganite in the fall. Last spring, in late March I hit the lawn with miloganite and starter fertilizer. This jump started top ...

Crabgrass 2019 Soil Samples
Hello all- Attaching my first Logan labs soil samples. I did a test for our front and back yard. A little information about both: Located in northern transition zone (7a). - front yard 3500 sf. Full sun, mostly TTTF (with a little KBG) - back yard: 5000 sf. Heavily shaded , with 4 large oaks (100ft)...

Re: Wireless Pre-Emergent Indicator
Andy, I know you’ve stated that you have/are still fighting the Stiltgrass battle. Do you time around forsithyia? Or go weeks /month earlier.

Re: Lime and Gypsum
Cec levels were 8.8 meq/gm and OM was 2%. OM probably increases slightly over the last year (previous owner don’t mulch meaves, use organic fertilizers, etc)

Lime and Gypsum
Hello, Last year I took a soil test from my local extension and ended up over the course of the year with a couple interesting observations (I will be doing a Logan labs test next spring, and look forward Andy’s complete analysis). 1). The sampling I took didn’t accurately represent my full back yar...

Re: Stiltgrass and Ph Levels
I also found a bunch of Extension websites mention increase in Ph as well. Here is an example: https://www.agriculture.nh.gov/publications-forms/documents/japanese-stiltgrass.pdf Environmental Impacts: Raises soil pH. Also forms dense monotypic stands that can dominate entire habitats, including the...

Re: Stiltgrass and Ph Levels
I used Acclaim to get rid of the it last year, any survivors were smothered compost when i reseeded in the fall. Then a Prodiamine in late Feb (we had a warm Feb, outside of Annapolis). And then a around of Dimension at the end of April. I am not sure Dimension is labeled for Stilgrass, but I see no...

Stiltgrass and Ph Levels
I came to an interesting (maybe newbie) discovery over the last week. A year and a half ago, my wife and I moved into our house. It came with a massive Japanese Stiltgrass infestation. Last August, I took a soil samples from our backyard. My mistake was focusing on the 'bad areas' that were devastat...

Re: Japanese Stiltgrass: Keep Your Eyes Open
I had it terrible last year (took over my whole back yard). This year I went very early and heavy with Preemergent (Feb), with a second application in Early May. I see it coming up along my fence and mulch beds - but nowhere in the lawn yet... am I likely safe at this point, or can it germinate thro...

Re: Winterize Fertilizer Question - NY/NJ - 15-0-10 all I could find
Just as an FYI, the NJ fertilizer law prohibits home owners from applying nitrogen or phosphorus fertilizer after November 15 and before March 1 in New Jersey. To remain in compliance with the law, you'll either need to do something very soon or wait until spring. If you end up doing something that...

Re: Approach for the Spring?
It’s mid-March. So you are recommending just trying to block any emergence of the stiltgrass right off the bat vs trying to fill in thin/bare spots? I am just trying to figure out if it’s better to not have stiltgrass but have bare spots (room for other weeds/issue). Or take a risk and fill in the p...
