Re: Grinding Cracked Corn?

Thanks for the replies. I found a couple options that look promising, but not sure i want to store either of them. (And they're a little pricey) https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/ama-usa-electric-grain-grinder-13-gal https://www.premier1supplies.com/p/bravo-feed-grinder I left a message with...

Re: Grinding Cracked Corn?

I don't, but ask your mill if they'll grind it for you--mine will. Free. I once asked for a slightly finer grind, they actually did it to my specs (I had no idea what I was asking for, I just didn't want whole corn, which was all they had at that time). As far as corn plants, they definitely won't ...

Grinding Cracked Corn?

I started using cracked corn this year. Feed mill is only 5-6 blocks from my house. My only complaint is that corn plants grow in the yard (and the dogs try to eat it after it first goes down). I've searched for sources of cornmeal in bulk in my area, but it's not available. I found a source 3 state...

Re: New Install! Now what?...

Update - June, 14 2021 As most of the Midwest knows, we're experiencing a heck of a hot dry spell. No rain in 16 days, and no "appreciable" rain in 26 days. Daytime high temps have been 85-92°F for the last 11 days. I have my new system set for ~.5" rain 3 days a week. Tues, Thurs, Sat. That's 1.5"...

Re: Losing color

Given your soil test results and calcareous soil scenario, the only thing I can see as being helpful for color would be foliar FAS treatments. I figured as much, and I have all the stuff to do it. However, with temps in the high-80's / low-90°F for the last week and foreseeable coming week(s), I'm ...

Losing color

This heat is brutal! As I've mentioned before, it's my first season with irrigation, and it's saving me right now. I'm not super happy with my color right now, and this loss of color appears to be typical in the summer. My lawn normally comes in pretty dark and spring green-up, then tends to lose co...

Insect / Spider Perimeter Treatment?

We seem to have a LOT of spiders. I know they have their place and eat other bugs. Can I do a perimeter treatment around the house and doorways? If so, what product should I use? I see Ortho makes a "Home Defense", but I'm not a fan of the hand pump, I'd rather buy something in concentrate and mix i...

Re: Angle Stripes?

As a follow up, I thought I'd share some first photos with the new angle. I need to do each direction a couple more times for it to start to pop (or install the striper). -One observation I made, that really stood out in these photos, is that I need to put my rows closer together for my 13-13-13 app...

Maple Leaf Damage

I just noticed this on my young maple tree. Not sure how old the tree is, house is 3yrs old, tree is about 12ft tall with 2.5in trunk. I also just noticed June Bugs are out. Is that what this damage is from? Something else? What prevents further damage? Bayer 3-in-1? Something else? https://i.postim...

Wait ten to fourteen days between herbicides. It'll take that long to assure that it isn't going to work anyway.
Thanks Morph. That was my thoughts as well. Just wanted confirmation.

Re: Q4 vs Spectracide App Rates

Update: I put down my 2nd application of this Spectracide Weedstop for Lawns plus Crabgrass Killer 5/12/21 (1st app was 4/30/21). It does not seem to be effective against my young yellow foxtail. I guess it's time to ratchet up to Tenacity. Any advice on how long to wait before following up with Ten...

Re: 2021: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Put down my 2nd application of "Spectracide Weed Stop for Lawns Plus Crabgrass Killer" (my experimental Q4-Plus substitute) Lesson Learned: I have an electric backpack sprayer with 2 batteries. I learned that each battery pumps at different a rate. GAH! Used a different battery than first applicatio...

Angle Stripes?

This is a pretty vain thing, but fun. When mowing, I alternate my direction every time. So I have 4 total directions. N-S, E-W, NW-SE, NE-SW. All 45° separation. However, I've recently considered changing my diagonal direction to move of a 30° angle or more to get a rhombus shape. (I have a roller f...

They should make a companion product for "Cease" called "Desist."

Just saying.

I just picked up some GrubEx on Sunday for the lawn.

Do you spray the Bayer 3-in-1 on the foliage?

Re: Sandcherry shrubs and dogs

I did install a vacuum breaker backflow preventer. The purple sand cherries were Mrs. Hammbone's request. We're using them as a barrier between our new patio and the rest of the world. We originally were going to do evergreen shrubs or a hedge, but were told by the millennial landscape designers tha...

Re: Sandcherry shrubs and dogs

It shouldn't be a problem. Just keep the shrub well-watered. It also won't need feeding in terms of nitrogen... Thanks Morph. We got 1.4" of rain Saturday night (the evening the shrubs were planted). I just finished installing drip irrigation on them with a timer. My emitters will put out 1.5gal/hr...

Re: Preventative fungicide program

I put down some HeadwayG April 8th. So far, that's my plan.

I have some Serenade and Actinovate sitting on the shelf in the garage. I've had it a few years with plans to use it, but never have.

Sandcherry shrubs and dogs

I just planted 7 new Sandcherries. Our 10yr old male English Springer Spaniel decided he needs to mark them. I've been watching him closely to prevent this, but I can't do that all the time. Any tips to keep your dog from peeing on shrubs, flowers, decorative grasses?
