Re: Bella Blugrass Review

$.90 per square foot. 5k of lawn would only cost $4,500. lol Yea price is insane but is that worse than any elite bluegrass plugs ? (I really have no clue) My plan is to buy 1 tray of plugs and dedicate a 10x 10 area to it. From there I can slowly kill more lawn and plant plugs. Itll be a process. ...

For what it is worth, this grass is not a Kentucky Bluegrass. It’s some other variety.
This is deep.

Well since my lawn looks like garbage anyway I might as well try a 10x10 foot before the reno.

I actually do like the look of it... kind of like a minitaure st aug.

Bella Blugrass Review

Anyone seen or heard of this type of dwarf bluegrass called Bella? https://sodsolutions.com/product/bella-bluegrass-plugs/ Claims to plant the entire yard by plugs and spreads quickly. If you look at one of the featurd pictures it almost looks like stolons instead of rhizomes. This seems intrguing t...

Re: Elite Bluegrass’s Competitve advantage

Ok so I get the point... its not going to work out the way a warm season grass will. But what about some truths. Kbg will spread and fill in so will this process not occur when other grass is present? What if someone diliigently put kbg plugs every 6 inches ? ( i know a lot of work ) What about the ...

Fullhead, what critters are going to tear up the yard, and what evidence is there that they do that regularly?

Agree. The assumptions were piled one on top of the other, and the evidence is long-running that this approach does not work.
Will heavily fertilized bluegrass spead into areas of lets say rye and fescue ?

Thanks Andy, I put down 350# of CC today but I skipped the composted area. Hopefully they are hungry by the fall!
CC seems to be the cheapest option for Purchased OM.... are you worried about critters tearing up the yard?

Elite Bluegrass’s Competitve advantage

So, year 2 of lawncare last year I did a spring overseed and while not turning put fantastic, I do think that I managed to establish new grass amongst the Old. My problem right now, are grassy weeds and other non-weed grasses that have been here before. I’m banking on the fact that Blugrass loves Ni...

Re: Effectiveness of PreM Application

Yeah, it should be fine. I've gotten a lot of rain at times after applying, too. Never had issues with it causing a problem. As far as dandelions, honestly, digging them out is the best way to get rid of them, unless you have tons, and then you can use an herbicide. I mean, I didnt water in after t...

Re: Effectiveness of PreM Application

What HLG and TimmyG said above. Also, Prodiamine (and most of the other related pre-Ms we use) is best at preventing grassy weeds. Not as effective on broadleaf weeds, so you could definitely still get some stuff like Oxalis, Spurge, Purslane, etc. popping up when it gets warmer. Decent rain 3 days...

Re: Philes Approach best practice for Kbg

So I put my 2nd .5# of N per thousand today and I already need my 2nd cut from the first application. Is there any concern about the N forcing top growth and taking away from rootgrowth which will cause it to spread? Or is that not a factor because the kbg will get constantly fed N going forward. Se...

Re: TTTF growth habit

I’ve got a lot of triv issues in other areas of the yard, and though the color seems reminiscent of triv, the veined leaf blades give me some comfort that it’s not. Triv has ribs or veins like Tall fescuse. The 2 giveaways are the boat shapped tip. (Fold in half and see id this occurs) and the tria...

Upom more research I found such a thing as a “microcut shredder”... chops up into a 4mmx10mm pieces. Pricey but changes the game with paper. https://www.shredcare.com/products/boxis-autoshred-110-sheet-autofeed-microcut-shredder-af110-rp-repackaged?variant=21271302373436 I may give this a go... they...

Effectiveness of PreM Application

I put down prodiame at the 5 month rate 2 weeks ago using a backpack sprayer. Looking around now, i see a couple of broadleaf weeds (4 in total ), clover, chickweed and hairy bittercress... Should I be concered at either my application ? If i missed a few spots do to uneven walking, then I’m ok with...

Felt bad today, worms came out during the rain and tried to escape directly into the garage of all places... crossed my bifen barrier... oh well. I pick em up and give due respect by returning to the lawn.

Re: Is it too early to fertilize in MA?

Im in Michigan and just out down .5# of N per k in the form of urea. The Philes regimen doesn’t really say when to start just that the grass needs N so I’m givin it to her. That being said, a lot of folks believe in the wake up naturally, which in my case I,m probably a week early. The other thing t...
