Re: Organics in MA?

I don’t know about the selection of organics they carry, but I use NutriAg Solutions in Sterling for my Urea and SOP needs. I also have about 30k sf and they don’t seem too bothered with my orders since I usually pick up a few hundred pounds of each at a time

Re: Timbo3985's Soil Test - 2019

All rates supplied are for granular applications. You cannot apply anywhere NEAR the amount of granular fertilizer using foliar applications - it's a small fraction, and barely affects the soil. This is a soil forum, and amounts are for adjusting soil nutrient content. I’ve got the SOP granular sto...

Re: Help with tow behind or backpack sprayer

Thank you Timbo and Hoosier. The John Deere dealer in the area only has a tow behind but I can see how a tractor mounted sprayer could be more maneuverable. Did this Northstar sprayer come with a mounting bracket for the D130 or did you have to rig something else up yourself? Also, when I used a pu...

Re: Help with tow behind or backpack sprayer

I have an Earthway S25 that I am very unhappy with. I have a bit more than an acre but about 30000 is lawn. I’m looking for a two behind for a John Deere D130 or a good dependable backpack sprayer for an area mentioned above. I’ll use it for Dimension, tenacity, fungicide. Cost is not particularly ...

Re: Timbo3985's Soil Test - 2019

In the interest of being transparent, I don't like liquid fertilizers for Nitrogen. What arrives in water leaves when it rains or is irrigated. If I (at 67 years old) can apply 350 lbs of Milorganite on an acre+, you can certainly apply a little Urea once a month. That said, do what you please... D...

Haha I wish I knew what was good and what wasn’t. Maybe I would have played it up a bit. Glad to know it tested as good as you say considering I’ve done so little since moving in.

I think he meant that your TEC suggests that you have a sandy soil.
Haha well that makes more sense then.

Also, after looking into the ferrous sulfate, that may answer my moss question...

Re: Timbo3985's Soil Test - 2019

I didn’t expect the soil test to come back as positively as it did. I appreciate you’re advice. Not sure what you mean by being a sandbagger though. I will start looking for some SOP and Ferrous Sulfate and apply as prescribed. As far as the Boron goes, I might as well add it to my plan and dive rig...

Timbo3985's Soil Test - 2019

This is the first soil test for me. Moved into this house in summer of 2018 and did begin mostly weed control of the 33,000 sf Northern Mix lawn. I have irrigation which was adjusted to properly water deep and infrequent. The lawn was pretty overrun with weeds and is also covered in what I would thi...

Re: Just moved, what to do first??

Crabgrass and Bent are Level 3 of the Triangle. Did you do Level 2? PS: Crabgrass can be Level 1 if you had used an herbicide with Quinclorac in it. I realized that I could/should have done that, after the fact unfortunately. Note to self for the future. Based on what I’ve seen in the lawn since le...

Re: Just moved, what to do first??

Thanks for finding those for me. I actually had it in my amazon cart for a few days now but was hoping I didn’t need it. I have started level 1 by means of Gordon’s lawn weed killer. It worked well on the broadleaf weeds after a full lawn application. A few small spot follow up treatments but not to...

Re: Just moved, what to do first??

Well I’m not home now, but yes it does lift like a toupe and has plenty of runners IIRC. It has more of a blueish tint in the morning dew.

Re: Just moved, what to do first??

It is certainly in patches, some fairly large, others about 2’x2’. I’m not sure how early/late it greens up since I’ve only been there a few months, but it does have a lighter color green than the rest of the lawn. I also notice that it almost seems like the root system spreads above ground level. I...

Re: Just moved, what to do first??

Is this a less than desirable grass or what? I have some random spots throughout the property where this grass is growing, but is noticeably different than the majority of it. https://s8.postimg.cc/l1jmoeyv5/9_C7_FF30_D-04_BA-492_D-8_B60-24_EC0_C46_F16_D.jpg https://s8.postimg.cc/53awy8775/D2124965-...

Re: Just moved, what to do first??

I’ve altered my irrigation schedule to deep and infrequent and started the triangle approach on August 28. I also decided to focus my efforts on an area about 30k sf, rather than the full yard. Now that the broadleaf weeds are gone, I’ve got a few questions. First, I’m wondering what type of grass t...

Re: Just moved, what to do first??

FYI if your septic tank is shallow it can burn the lawn in summer in that area. I had that issue with my first home and added about 6 inches of loam and had it graded in that area as I got tired of a rectangular dead zone every year. The top of tank was only 6 inches below grade. YMMV Start with we...

Just moved, what to do first??

I’ve been reading around on the site a little while and finally joined. Lots of info and more importantly lost of good people willing to help. I just moved to a new house in central MA and I’m trying to get a game plan together to try and get the lawn to a place I can be confident in. The property i...
