Re: s3_buell_ 2020 backyard renovation
Nice pictures. Congratulations on your success. If you only have 100 tall grass plants, can't you hand pull them? Thank you. My success is all about following the advise on this site. I failed repeatedly before finding aroundtheyard.com . I've been pulling here and there and plan on turning up the ...

Re: Help! Overwhelmed
It doesn't look unrecoverable to me. I don't know if you have time to kill weeds and then over seed, nor when your seed down date is in your area. So, how about just working as many best practices as you can without seed this fall? Get a soil test following the recommendations on this site to use th...

Re: s3_buell_ 2020 backyard renovation
Please not triv!!! I've been surfing grass ID sites since I last posted and I'm thinking some type of tall fescue and specifically K-31. Since I just cut, I'll need to wait until I get another specimen to really review, but right now from the pic, I think: Rolled vernation No prominent mid-vein Flat...

Re: Opinion on next Reno step
I think the fescue is doing fine for 3 weeks. I think I see very tiny blades in some areas in the pics, so I agree with MorpheusPA to check in detail. Could be lagging fescue or your KBG. Squat down low. Whether or not you add more seed, be consistent in keeping the seed moist. My opinion is that go...

Sep 11: We had 3 inches of rain earlier this week, so timers were shutoff. That rain really kicked the grass into high gear, so after the soil firmed up a bit, first cut. https://i.postimg.cc/9zpHTzxT/20200911-165530.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/3dx5Z76q/20200911-165541.jpg Now, back to the seed label. ...

Off to Lowes, where, another bonus, 4 valve timers now cost half what they used to!! Aug 29: A few thunderstorms arrive in series for 4 inche...

Re: s3_buell_ 2020 backyard renovation
August 15 arrives. Reasonable weather, supplies mostly at hand. Let's do it. First, Scotts starter with Tenacity, then tall fescue seed. https://i.postimg.cc/YGwfdt3F/20200726-143013.jpg Yes, that's a lot of "other crop" and weed seeds, but I'm impulsive and this package is $69 for 50 lbs. I cave. S...

The perrenial ryegrass in the backyard required more overseeding work than I wanted to do. So 41% glyphosate: https://i.postimg.cc/hzFKX50M/20200816-143641.jpg Just kidding, I only needed a quart. :) And, after reading the label too quickly, waiting for the kill for more than a week, glyphosate was ...

Seed down timing
I am usually late in preparing for seeding in the fall but this year I am prepared early and looking to start early. Here in Detroit, we are expecting highs around 80 and lows around 65 for the 10 day forecast for the next 10 days. I'm temped to drop Tall Fescue seed on Sunday. What do you think? Ho...

Re: Rate Your 2018 Season Results
Overall, I accomplished more than expected with less work. I learned a little about some new things too. I've been manually picking a nutsedge spot for years and only had two plants this year. It should be done. Yea! This was the first year really attempting to deal with yearly rust in early August....

Re: Aggressive fall N plan in michigan
On Nov 4, after seeing no growth at all for more than a week, I decided to winterize before the next significant forecast rain, then found that the next rain would be the next day, so I winterized Nov 4. This is more a week earlier than my average timing. We dropped average temps to the 30s shortly ...

Preparing a PRG renovation for Michigan winter.
My PRG reno is still growing well and is thickening and is actually choking out some weeds. I'm really pleased. It has received a total of 2 lbs N this fall. I'm done feeding it now and thinking towards winter preparation. What height of cut going into winter is recommended for the first year or for...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens: How Is It Going?
With the exception of a 6 inch by 3 foot strip that I missed with the T-Nex spray, I have no idea. That strip is growing quickly and looks great. The rest of the KBG and TTTF looks just like it did 4 weeks ago. I've been running the mower over the KBG and TTTF every week or two and getting very litt...

If you're not getting clippings, then you are done. Let the grass, and the great ATY gurus be your guide. In Dearborn, I'm definitely not done yet this year. I'm still cutting twice a week as of Wednesday. Now, that said, we're suddenly below average temp instead of way over and growth could stop at...

The tiny dicots and young purslane are effectively gone. I think that PRG competition and mesotrione did the job. Over the last couple of weeks, I've picked up some Carolina germanium https://i.postimg.cc/MXX38HPf/20181004_170702.jpg and some redroot pigweed. https://i.postimg.cc/5X5nmC0T/20181004_1...
