Re: Vinceisvince - 2021- Soil test - SAND YARD

Vinceisvince I am interested in robotic mowers. Locally where I live I haven't been able to find anyone that is using one. I wanted to see what lawns look like that are being cut by them and talk to the owners. My yard is steep in areas and would be pushing the incline limits. I'm curious why they a...

Re: Cover crop for increasing soil organic matter

Annual rye is 'Lolium multiflorum'. Rye bread rye, green manure rye is 'Secale Cereale'. I grew it once in a garden plot and had so much difficulty spading it over because of the root mass that I said never again. That is why I politely accepted the gift of the seeds and made rye bread instead.

Re: Cover crop for increasing soil organic matter

Rye (Secale Cereale) is a classic green manure cover crop for fields and gardens. This rye is what rye bread is made from. I was given five pounds to sow along with my KBG when I did my renovation, for use on sharp inclines. It roots quick and can temporarily hold the soil while the KBG establishes....

I sprayed my Poa Trivialis again today. Something good must be happening. Last week it took 20 gallons and this week eight gallons. I only sprayed what looked like new or active growth. Now we need rain. It's only rained 4/10 in three weeks. The world mole population continues to avoid my four traps.

Re: OK, so who was brave/dumb enough to use Certainty?

These are a very fine-bladed, low-growing, yellow-green variety or varieties of Triv, which masquerade as fine fescues to the untrained eye or casual glance (but if you look at it very carefully, there is not much resemblance at all to FF). Green I have some of this plant in my yard. What it is and ...

Re: Weed battle and now POA Triv

I have some experience with trivialis. It seems there are five ways you can go. 1. Don't do anything. Leave it be and live with it. 2. Kill it now with glyphosphate. Most people reseed in August , 4 months from now. This won't eliminate the trivialis. The rootlings will lay dormant subsurface and co...

Re: Need Help with Lawn (Pic Included)

Some say you're killing it with kindness. Back off on all the kindness, let it recover and then see where you're at. I'm unfamiliar with the Q4 product but this may be what you are experiencing. Per the product label: Turfgrass tolerance to this product may vary and temporary turfgrass yellowing may...

I'm apply extra pressure on the mole/moles. They/it has become active again with the warmer weather. https://i.postimg.cc/5YK9gSM1/Mole-trapping-april-2021.jpg I got my first semi real mow in yesterday. With the lawn uniform and one height suddenly it is starting to look like a lawn. Some of it is t...

Re: 'New' House, New Lawn Renovation Continued 2021

We're getting a measurable gentle rain at the moment. I think it is the first decent rain in 18 days. My front yard is becoming a lawn. The dormant sowing I did December 1st is a resounding success. I have uniform germination, and after a months growth it is starting to look green (fuzz). I have bee...

Re: Bag or Mulch mow a Poa annua-infested yard?

I was doing some reading the other day and I saw that prodiamine is 70% effective against Poa Annua. So instead of 10 million seeds germinating, you only get 3 million.

Re: 'New' House, New Lawn Renovation Continued 2021

I spot sprayed again today with Tenacity. As my kbg becomes better established and I have a better eye for the trivialis, I spot it trying to sneak in pretty much everywhere. It grows faster and taller than the turf grass. It is also yellow and lime green. Some of the spots that i caught the earlies...

This is what a nice sized portion of my front yard looks like. This is what my wife sees out her kitchen window. Also it is near the road, so what passerbys see as well. Some of these trivialis tufts have been hit 4-5 times with Tenacity. The KBG that is in there seems not to be affected. I'm not na...

Aparently with a waxing gibbous moon, photos taken at a certain time of day my rear lawn doesn't look too bad. It is coming along. Yesterday it got its first almost real mow. Patches of it look really nice. I put six yards of compost on the worst areas this week. https://i.postimg.cc/zLD9KKsV/backya...

Re: 'New' House, New Lawn Renovation Continued 2021

The trench I dug was a foot deep, so lots is bottom soil. I'll work organic matter and run it through a sieve before I reuse it. At least it is native to my soil type.

I dug a trench and planted some asparagus. In the process I removed a cubic yard of dirt to my compost area. Now I won't have to purchase soil when the time comes to fill holes and depressions. https://i.postimg.cc/VrLYmmxT/Asparagus-trench-april-2021.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/2bcC5gm5/175981672-3444...
