Ruxie 2020 Renovation
Decided I want to reno part of the front lawn (~1300 sq ft) this summer. This area gets about 40-50% shade, mainly in the morning, during the day due to the house and trees blocking the sun. Because of that, I plan to use Mazama KBG. I would appreciate any feedback/thoughts on the below timeline. Th...

Thanks for all of your help Andy! Boron is on the table like last year.
I have some 10-10-10 left over from last year and can get more.

Ruxie 2020 Soil Test
Hi, Attached is my 2020 soil test. Looks like there has been some improvement to last year's results. Last year, I added OM a couple time and primarily used organic fertilizers. I added Boron and zinc at the recommended levels. I did use AS in the fall. https://i.postimg.cc/TpjHFtN2/Ruxie-2020-Soil-...

Re: Japanese Maples: Strange Year (?)
Funny that you mention this. I raked some leaves last weekend and pondered why my JM still has a lot of leaves on it. Many of the others in my neighborhood are in the same boat.

Re: How Do You Rate The 2019 Season For Your Lawn?
Learned a ton this year. Chose "B". Successes- less weed pressure, fall overseed, soil improvements & getting on a routine of good cultural practices. Focus in 2020 will be better controlling fungal diseases and thatch.

I also threw down corn meal last weekend if that matters.

Weeping Willow
I'm hoping someone can tell me what is happening to my weeping willow. It has been planted for almost 2 years. As you can see in the picture, over the past 3-5 days, I have noticed the main trunk continues to slump to the side. The top branches are losing all of its leaves. Last weekend, I added a 2...

Re: Grass growing at different rate
Appreciate the knowledge. I would say that all the different genuses are coming out of dormancy. After the mow this morning (HOC 2.5 in), the grass height is more even across the entire lawn. I will continue to mow frequent enough so I can stick to the 1/3 rule. Thanks!

Grass growing at different rate
Being new to lawncare, I have a question wondering why different grasses grow a different rates? I have a mixed lawn and some grass grew quickly coming out of winter weeks ago. Some is just starting top growth. This caused a lumpy lawn. Since all the different grasses are now growing (top growth) it...

Re: A "Worm Apocalypse"? Really?
On over an acre with relatively few trees it's a long, long battle. I've made some progress over the last several years. My worm population is booming! I keep on keeping on.... If my math is right comparing to my 4000 sqft lawn, it will cost you approximately $3300 to spread peat on 1.5 acres

Re: A "Worm Apocalypse"? Really?
I've been in my house for almost 2-years, but didn't start educating myself on proper lawn care until last summer. I applied compost last fall, mulched leaves and noticed a lot more worm casting mounds this spring. I applied 22 bales of peat moss going on 2-weeks ago. I was worried I applied too muc...

Re: Ruxie's 2019 Soil Test
You are 0.01 point from a Loam soil. Your OM% isn't terrible, but adding more would lift the TEC - I'd like to see it at 5% for you, and that will take a couple of years even if you dive in with both feet. Do it! You will not lower a pH of 7.8 with anything that comes in a bag, or anything that is ...

Would adding sulfur, critic acid and peat moss help lower the pH?

The link was my 2019 Plan prior to the soil test. I think it would help my soil substituting peat moss for compost.

Re: Ruxie 2019 Spring Plan
As far as Milorganite/OceanGro, etc...they are readily available and fairly affordable. In NJ, OceanGro is especially affordable. Also, the iron is a good feature as you mentioned. They also have Phosphorus, which make them decent starter fertilizers. Finally, they contain fairly significant fast r...

Re: Ruxie 2019 Spring Plan
One thing I'd look at having in your arsenal is milorganite or its local equivalent, oceangro. The other thing is that corn meal doesnt have anywhere near the efficacy of a chemical pre emergent. I'm not trying to discourage you just setting expectations. And the thing about mixing chemical fungici...

Wow! What a comprehensive organic approach. That looks really good (and a lot of work). *** :hello: Appreciate it Green. Got a lot of good knowledge from many here. I only have a few comments. 1. If you Winterized the lawn, you may not need organic fertilizer until more like mid (or even late in my...

Ruxie 2019 Spring Plan
This will be my first full year completing lawn care in my new home. After joining the site last fall, I learned so much and came up with the below plan. I want to try to stay as much organic as possible. I know it may make sense to use some synthetics based on my soil test results and I'm fine with...
