Thank you Andy!
Last year I was dropping gypsum at the “high” bag rate. I’ll switch to the normal bag rate every 60 days. I’ll do some reading on urea vs organics too. Otherwise I’ll keep the plan moving forward. Let’s see where we progress to next year!

Matt641 Humate Recommendation
Hi Andy,
Would humates be something that I can begin incorporating into my plan? What would you recommend as the rate/frequency? Thanks so much.

Re: Matt641 Year 2 Soil Test Results
Thank you bpgreen I’ll check places like that out. I took a look at the two fast acting gypsum options I have near me. I went with the 30lb sta green rapid gypsum with soluble calcium. They look like they have identical ingredients so I ended up getting the same for less by going with this one. Sinc...

Re: Matt641 Year 2 Soil Test Results
Andy, this will be my first time using gypsum. I’m researching it now and it seems like Lowe’s near me carries sta green fast acting enhanced gypsum with 16% sulphur in 25lb bags for $13.98 and they also have sta green soil conditioner rapid gypsum with soluble calcium in 30lb bags for $9.97. Both d...

Re: Matt641 Year 2 Soil Test Results
Ok I’ll check into peat moss and compost.
I’ll return the extra Epsom salts and keep the manganese on the shelf until it’s needed again.
Gypsum and boron it is this year.

Re: Matt641 Year 2 Soil Test Results
Thank you for the honesty Andy. I know the OM needs work. I’ll never be able to hide that. Unfortunately, we don’t have any trees on our property so all OM will need to be imported which makes it a challenge. I understand it won’t come in a bag but I’ll explore my options. I’d entertain any of your ...

Matt641 Year 2 Soil Test Results
Hope everyone is staying afe and healthy during the pandemic. Here's my second year soil test results from Logan Labs. I have about 7k sqft of grass. I seeded the backyard last year and it came in pretty well. I'm going through the triangle approach now to get rid of the weeds that have popped up. B...

Re: Matt641 first soil test
I just found a good deal on encap lime. Is it worth it for me to pick them up now for next season before I see the results from my second soil test? I know we won’t know for sure until then but is this typically a multi year battle on sandy soil like mine? I’ll have gotten 3 lime apps at 9lbs/k each...

Re: Matt641 first soil test
I dropped 9lbs/k of encap lime and 2lbs/k of Epsom salts yesterday. Next drop will be in July. This is my first time dealing with lime. Is it safe to drop in July assuming the grass is not drought stressed? Or would it be better to wait until Labor Day and try to squeeze a third app before the groun...

Re: Matt641 first soil test
Nevermind I think I’m finding best prices on encap. Bjs has 40lbs at $14.99. I should be able to fit the full rate into the budget.

Re: Matt641 first soil test
Thank you. What about the 7lbs/k of calcitic lime instead of 9lbs/k? Will I need to reduce the amount of Epsom salt to keep the proper ratio? Or should I just stick with the 9lbs? It would be easier on the budget to just spread a whole 50lb bag of lime over the 7k sqft.

Re: Matt641 first soil test
Thank you for the quick reply Andy! I had a feeling this was going to be a challenging soil. I made my first move against crabgrass so let’s hope for the best. I’m trying to source a good balanced fertilizer now and will let you know what I find. Seems like the Walmart’s in Suffolk county don’t carr...

Matt641 first soil test
I just had my first soil test done by logan labs. It’s attached at the bottom of this thread. I have about 7k sqft of crabgrass/weeds and just seeded it a few weeks ago with a blend of KBG and TTTF along with tenacity. There is a small section in the front that I believe is Bermuda. It’s dormant now...
