Re: Weed B Gon plus crabgrass control failure

Weed #1 is definitely Poa Annua. Weed-B-Gon will not phase it in the least. Picture #2 is another grassy weed that Weed-B-Gon will not touch, but the picture isn't close enough to ID it well. Go to the Articles area and read the "Identifying Grassy Weeds" article to find out why you need very up-cl...

Weed B Gon plus crabgrass control failure

Weeds are getting out of control in my lawn. I have sprayed twice Weed B Gon Plus crabgrass control first on Mar. 12th and didn't see much effect on weeds so sprayed it again on Mar. 22nd., again more than 11 days and weeds are green and expanding. See attached pictures. https://i.postimg.cc/qzbdgSS...

Re: Weed-killer choices while seeding bare spots with KBG

Sounds like a plan. Git 'er done. FWIW, when I spot spray, I tend to keep the pressure in the sprayer a little low. Yes, droplet sizes get larger and the spray less uniform, but I can control what gets sprayed much better, especially if I'm spraying in a perennial or shrub bed. Alternatively, if yo...

Re: It's Finally the Day I Consider the Beginning of Spring!!

My pool started turning green from algae past weekend so it's definitely Spring for my pool at least. I have never removed the pool cover this early in the year, usually early April I remove the cover and barely see any signs of algae. Moreover, due to pandemic, I am having a hard time finding bleac...

Re: Weed-killer choices while seeding bare spots with KBG

Broadleaf weeds will get large much faster than new grass seedlings, making it particularly difficult to grow new grass in the bare spots, so you want to do something about the weeds first. And then I suggest applying Tenacity to the bare soil at seed down for it's moderate performance as a pre-eme...

Re: Weed-killer choices while seeding bare spots with KBG

There are not a lot of post herbicides that permit seeding KBG during use. The one that comes to mind is Tenacity. But even with it, you cannot apply it during the actual germination period. Before is fine. As far as your product, check the label. It will give you a number of weeks to wait after us...

Weed-killer choices while seeding bare spots with KBG

Hello, I am noticing weeds showing up everywhere in my newly established KBG lawn, attached are weed pictures. I want to kill these weeds and also want to seed bare spots in the next few days where grass either grew sparse or not at all. I would really appreciate recommendations on the choice of wee...

Re: lawnlawn 2019_09_05 soil test

There is no "seems like" in determining growth stoppage - it's binary. You mow for a few minutes with a bagger on and see if you get grass clippings. It's not an art - it's growing or it's not. Period. Not "slow", not "hardly any" - stopped or not. I'd like you to ponder this: why do you think that...

Re: Scott's grubbex $28.89

Check Walmart in-store as well. I bought 10M from Amazon in Sept. for $30 a bag. Last week I was searching for balanced fertilizer and found Grubbex 5M for $5 a bag, end up buying possibly more bags than I'll need in the Spring. Walmart also had other fertilizers on end of season clearance.

Re: lawnlawn 2019_09_05 soil test

The lawn varies in sandiness from "very sandy" to "somewhat sandy". The OM% varies from "poor" to "pretty good". Add organic matter in the areas that are below 4%, and do it regularly. I suspect some of the variability is more due to a low number of samples as much as any actual difference - a sing...

Re: New lawn from scratch

"Does it make any difference in applying fertilizer before mowing versus a day or two after mowing?" I dont think so. However if you bag the clippings (which you shouldn't) you don't want the mower to suck up any fertilizer. I'm not sure if that's a "thing" but it would be something to look out for...

Re: New lawn from scratch

I live in Manlius which is a south eastern burb of syracuse. Not too far from Green Lakes. My son jogs those trails a lot in the warm weather. I'm no expert but I am currently at 2.5" and I may go down to 2" once top growth has stopped. Your climate is obviously different from ours and I bet you ha...

Re: New lawn from scratch

I would set the mower to take off just the tips of the grass. If it's 4" I would cut it down to 3.5" and then slowly lower as you get to the end of the season. As for weeds - I think wbg say to wait for 3 mowings vefore using. It speaks to it on the label. I would look into that. I would also spend...

Re: New lawn from scratch

Hello Experts, Day 34 from seeding, 28 days since germination, and the lawn is around 3 to 4 inches tall. The grass blades are really thin but do have multiple blades per plant. I have a few questions; 1) Do you think it's about time to do the first cut? if so then cut to what height? The blades lo...

Re: New lawn from scratch

4) I also have loose fluffy soil tunnels showing up all over the lawn, possibly by moles. Is there any repellant that I can spray or spread? Basically something to get them off my lawn without killing them. I am surrounded by acres of forest where these pests can move to. P.S. I have an electric 20"...
