Under Applied Fert
Hi there, I under applied fert tonight. Using Lesco 25-0-6 with 5% iron. The spreader got clogged and I ended up getting about 6,000 square feet worth in a 10,000 square foot area. I didn't realize how light i was going until i was done. You'd think I could just go over it with more, but my spreader...

Re: Weeds Are Out of Control In Otherwise Decent Lawn
Sorry, I don't mean to bump this, but I realized I posted the same picture twice above and wanted to post the correct picture of the clasping auricles on quackgrass. This is an important identifier for those that are wondering what weed they might have. https://i.postimg.cc/hQjySxhk/20200620-165412....

Re: Weeds Are Out of Control In Otherwise Decent Lawn
Okay! I will go ahead and start doing pre em in fall and spring.
I've read about Certainty, but wasn't sure if anyone was getting good control of quackgrass and not killing their good grass too. I think it's probably worth a shot.
Thanks for your advice.

Re: Weeds Are Out of Control In Otherwise Decent Lawn
It is my identification. It seems like a fairly common weed around here. I had it at my last home too. I have never been 100% certain, but it has clasping auricles and rhizomes and based off of it's color and overall look the most likely thing seemed like quackgrass. I will see if I can find one wit...

Weeds Are Out of Control In Otherwise Decent Lawn
Hey guys, Pretty discouraged today. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I don't know that anyone else will either, but I'm at a loss. This is my second year with this lawn and I have been taking care of what looks to be a generic Northern Mix lawn. It has been looking fairly good, seven great at time...

Re: The effects of too much rain
Yeah, good point. This is my first fall here so I'm not sure what to expect. Our last home was full sun.
I wonder if I could plant a grass that does better back there. Earlier in the year I didnt really want to mess with it because it looked great, but aftwer the full season I'm rethinking that.

The effects of too much rain
Hey everyone, The lawn care season is winding down for me and now I am looking back on the season and trying to figure out what to do differently next year. One big question I have are the effects of too much water. Mainly, can it cause the lawn to thin out? My backyard is very shady and we got so m...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens
It's hard to say. Most likely yes, but that is not always the case. We probably won't see the 2 to 4 they are predicting, but if we get 4, it's likely i won't see grass again until spring. I guess the question then becomes, am i better off doing it a little early or not at all. I could wait and mayb...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens
Any advice for beating the snow with the last fertilizer app? My grass is still growing just slightly, its very near done, but I'm not sure it has completely stopped. We have 2 to 4 inches of snow expected up here on Tuesday. How does one work around the weather without getting the winterizer down t...

Re: Advice for Weedy Lawn
Hi Andy, yes I have. I will definitely hit the broadleaf weeds. I will be at his place tonight, but if I remember correctly it's mostly crabgrass so I won't be bothering with trying to kill that now. I will double check on what other weeds I am dealing with and work on killing them off this fall. Wh...

Advice for Weedy Lawn
Hi all, My mother and father in law moved into a new home this summer and I was hoping to get their lawn into decent shape. Right now we are only focusing on one area of the lawn. The other areas will be sodded. This area is basically 30% - 40% crabgrass and other weeds. The grass is a northern mix....

Re: Brown Blades of Grass?
Ok cool. Thanks. I think for me it's probably time to hit it with some nitrogen then and help to push it out. It is less pronounced in the shady areas too. This is the sunniest area of my lawn.

Brown Blades of Grass?
Hey everyone. I'm terrible at identifying any types of brown or dead grass in my lawn. I know it's not easy for you guys with just pictures, but I'm hoping for a little guidance. I am not sure if this is the shedding that is referred to during fall or if I am dealing with some sort of fungus or poss...

Re: "Feed" Grade Urea
Thanks Ken n Nancy, that helps clear up some things.
I was really hoping to use it in my cereal, but I guess I'll just have to get a cow for my left overs. Maybe a goat would work I was considering getting one or two so I could stop mowing the hill in my backyard.
Thanks again

Re: "Feed" Grade Urea
Ok thanks, well according to that I think my timing is right for here in MN. I was mainly wondering if its safe a couple weeks after an app of milo. I'm pretty sure that's safe too, but its nice to hear from people who have actually done it.

Re: "Feed" Grade Urea
When you say wake up. What do you mean exactly? I dont let the lawn go dormant in the summer so it never really "fell asleep" if that's what you mean.

Re: "Feed" Grade Urea
Wow, thanks guys. I feel a little more comfortable now. Will it be ok to use this weekend? I put down a full app of milorganite down at bag rate about 2 weeks ago (Aug 6th). I've put milorganite and other synthetics down a week apart before, but urea is all new to me. Andy, I know you've mentioned t...

"Feed" Grade Urea
Is this the right stuff that I should be using? I went and picked up a bag from the local feed mill today. Price was what was expected (about $17 for 50lbs) and it came in the plain brown bag like expected. But the guy loaded it into my vehicle for me and I didn't look at the tag until I got home. I...
