Re: Are "professional" turfgrass seeds the only way to have a good lawn?

I think I paid $160 for 25 lbs of quality KBG at Seedsuperstore but I picked it up so there was no shipping cost. But if I had to pay $600 for 50 lbs I would have a stiff drink and click the "place order" button. Considering what you will spend over the next 10 years on other inputs to the lawn, I ...

Re: Are "professional" turfgrass seeds the only way to have a good lawn?

Re: my own opening post, well pardon me! I apparently was just kidding around. Forget $233... now we are up to $595 for 50 lbs. Hmmm.

I am tempted to buy a poor-man's helping of such seeds and see what gives.

Bentgrass: phenoxaprop-p-ethyl and/or clear plastic?

Why dose mesotrione currently all the fuss about bentgrass control? You have to spray it three times, and there seems to be mixed results. First of all, I'm wondering why fenoxaprop-p-ethyl (BioAdvanced Bermuda Killer) is not use? Also, wondering why clear plastic isn't used? A university's turfgras...

Are "professional" turfgrass seeds the only way to have a good lawn?

Does one have to buy "professional" grass seed (such as ones where a 50 lb bag is $233) in order to get a good lawn? I'm intrigued by these products... the bags are white, they are not sold in hardware stores, and they have high price tags. Is it really better seed, or is it really just a function o...

Tall fescue in Sun and Shade mixes

All lawn seed companies have "Tall Fescue" blends, as well as specialty (such as shade) "for Tall Fescue Lawns." However, Scotts is the only one (at least mainstream one) that doesn't have TTTF in the Sun and Shade mix. And even Scotts now has Tall fescue in their dense shade mix (I think it used to...

If topramezone turned it white, then....

Then is it not a desired turfgrass if topramezone turned it white? I had stuff I first thought was tall fescue, then thought was roughstalk bluegrass, then thought might be a sterile fine crabgrass, then thought was tall fescue again. Topramezone turned it white... so does that mean it is not tall f...

Re: Prime Source Meso 4SC Select – Generic Tenacity

Oh, sounds like you are on top of it. I also have a big lawn (more or less the same size are yours), and also with creeping bentgrass invasion! The topramezone definitely bleaches the bentgrass, but whether or not it kills it I don't know because bentgrass is tenacious and aggressively grows back ov...

Re: Prime Source Meso 4SC Select – Generic Tenacity

Topramezone, found in RoundUp's "Crabgrass Destroyer" is similar to mesotrione. For about 30 bucks you get the ready-to-spray stuff, with an electric wand with multiple settings, etc.

Has anyone used Alkaligrass?

At my Ace Hardware, I found a bag of "curbside mix," which has (among others) "alkaligrass." Apparently its a shallow-rooted spreading grass that has tolerace to salt and alkaline soil. I think it is used in seaside property. I have only one concern: does it look enough like bluegrass/ryegrass/fescu...

Re: Triclopyr

Hello. On one university's agriculture webpage, they have an herbicide document that is fairly in-depth. Anyway, triclopyr was effective against every weed in the table, and was the only selective herbicide, period, that was effective against every weed listed in this table. Not sure if this is what...

How bad do new TTTF cultivars look in a KBG/RG/FF lawn?

Some areas of my lawn (such as bare patches and some thin problem areas) I would like to incorporate tall fescue in. However, it seems most places say that TTTF is outright not compatible with a "sun and shade mix" type lawn because it will form clumps and be taller than the surrounding grass. Yet, ...

Do organic fungicides (neem, rosemary, etc) kill grass?

Some of the antifungal components in "natural" fungicides are harsh organic aromatic chemicals like pinene, carvacrol, etc. Similar components are used in pure form as herbicides because the pure solvent strips off the protective covering of plant leaves. So anyway, does anybody know if the amount t...
