Re: How Short is your Last Cut?
In the fall I gradually work down from 4" to 2.5". My yard at 2.5" won't mat down under snow and the leaves blow off it.
Got down to 2.5" on 11/20. Grass is not growing much, so I think there may be 1 more mow/leaf-chop for the year.

I'll bite, what are you doing to increase shade tolerance? It's a combo of things that I call HFAT, which I hope to take to final testing with a few members next year. Sorry, but no details being published yet. What is the HOC in the pic? What HOC do you plan for July? 4" and 4". The "Emblem" culti...

Preparing for Drought
I have 2 acres without irrigation in north-central Indiana. I have had 0.1 inches of rain in June, and the 2-week forecast has little to no rain chances with temps in the 90's. I last mowed on 6/6 at 4 inches. The grass is now about 6 inches and showing some stress from lack of water. Should I mow n...

Re: Japanese Maples: Strange Year (?)
In north-central Indiana, my Japanese maple and weeping cherry held on to about half their leaves this year (they are usually bare by now). Other similar trees in my area also have leaves. The leaves are brown and dry, so I am not sure if they would hold on the ice and snow. Hoping the trees are OK ...

Re: Winterizing Poll
Green - your comments above are exactly my reason for this poll. I have been reading a lot of differing theories on winterizing and am curious to see the thoughts of this community. Please keep us posted on your results with the differing amounts of N. Partly because of your post, but also because ...

Re: How Do You Rate The 2019 Season For Your Lawn?
This year was about learning and acquiring a lot of great knowledge from this website...thank you everyone!
But a record wet spring; followed by a 6 week summer drought; and then a record dry fall; made this year have a lot of frustrations. Hoping for better conditions in 2020!

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Cleaned out the gutters and chopped up some leaves on 11/20. There were no grass clippings since the 11/10 mow, so I put down winterizer urea at 0.5 # N/k and got a little rain on 11/21. Flowering pears and red oaks still have most of their leaves. Hoping for a nice day in mid-December for one more ...

Re: Growth Stoppage
Grass still growing a bit in north-central Indiana. I mowed/leaf-mulched on 11/3 & 11/10, cutting less than 1" off on 11/10. Cold next 4 days with highs in the 30's and maybe some single digit lows...but 50's next week. May get enough snow tonight to cover the grass, providing some insulation.

Re: Compare and save glyphosphate
FWIW, I tried some 15-20 year old glyphosate out on some sidewalk plants and it did jack squat. It had been stored in an unconditioned garage in Indiana. Interesting...in mid-September I used some approximately 15-year-old Weed B Gon Max (also stored in an unconditioned garage in Indiana), and it w...

Winterizing Poll
Please make a selection a feel free to discuss.
If you plan to spread more than 1 lb, maybe just select the 1 lb and then state how much you plan to apply. And if you plan to spread less than 1 lb (for example 0.33 lb), just select 0.50 lb and state how much you plan to apply.
Thanks!
