Re: John's Soil Test
Thank you for that
This clay, when moist, will cling with a death grip to your shoes and the wheels of your yard tools. Even setting the hose to master blast wont necessarily get it all - some hand scrubbing is usually necessary.
On the gypsum idea, wont it add even more calcium?

Re: John's Soil Test
Two other details I later realized I forgot above
This test was taken prior to fert or anything else since Prodiamine in late Nov
I have been top dressing with compost at least once a year for the last 4 years

John's Soil Test
This is a St. Augustine lawn of approximately 2000sf located in Houston. This area is known for its clay soil colloquially called "black gumbo." I can get it going well every Spring, but when the heat really hits (somewhere around Memorial Day) it starts dying off and by the Fall its pretty pathetic...

Re: John P: Why Do "Desired Values" Change?
Thank you gentlemen. When I was first contemplating the question, I was thinking in terms of PPM. But the CATIONS are stated by this lab in terms of lbs per acre. So even though a "desired value" of 491 lbs per acre of Mg (2020) over 298 ppa (2019) does not seem as much a variance even if it is a 60...

Excellent response. Thank you for taking the time.MorpheusPA wrote: ↑April 1st, 2021, 5:33 pm...But I digress. 200 ppm aluminum actually isn't that high; I've seen Al go to 1000 or more in clay soils (where aluminum compounds are part of the clay itself), and that also won't be a problem.
My own soil runs around 700 ppm.

Re: John P: Why Do "Desired Values" Change?
Thanks for the reply. It was just a question that occurred to me while reading that specific thread. Attempted hijacking does sounds pretty awful,
It seems that pH is a part of the calculation as well as it moved in the same direction as the other numbers, but by a much smaller percentage.

John P: Why Do "Desired Values" Change?
*** Split Posting because it hijacked another thread *** by Moderator I noticed the lab keeps changing the "desired value" of the CATIONS with each test And those changes appear (to me at least) significant For example, from 2019 to 2020, they raised his "desired value" for Mg ~65% But then from 202...

Re: Chris's 2021 Soil Test
....Micros: These look good this year. I could tap copper and zinc, but there's no real need to do so. Boron is on the nose perfect. Iron is low for your pH, but it won't be easily available anyway, and there's no reason to concern ourselves with it this year. Hope you guys do not mind if I butt in...

Re: Hammbone81 Soil Test Results - Fall 2019
There is no single formula that delivers a "correct answer". There are formulas that calculate numbers, and formulas that calculate ratios of one nutrient to others. I have couple dozen of them, and use a goal-seeking formula to try to find the "sweet spots" to achieve the best impact to the formul...

Re: Hammbone81 Soil Test Results - Fall 2019
Another question I was wondering about is the elements that should not be applied at the same time.
I think I saw that it is best not to add Magnesium at the same time as Potash (K)?
Are there any others like this?
Thanks

Re: Hammbone81 Soil Test Results - Fall 2019
Plans are generally made for one season or one year. If I don't think you'll make a whole year, I will generally say "make two applications" or similar. Soil chemistry is far too complex to be able to predict the resulting PPM levels in advance. Thank you again for taking the time to answer my ques...

Re: Hammbone81 Soil Test Results - Fall 2019
That's fine. "Pentahydrate" means there are 5 water molecules attached. Thanks for that reply Still on micronutrients, if directions call for 3 tblsp/k every 60 days, how do we judge how long to continue the treatment? Should we just keep going until the next soil test? Or should we set a target an...

Just double checking that the copper sulfate we want is "Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate?"
