Re: thalaivar's Front Yard Fall 2020 Soil Test
Cool, can do the first thing, not sure if I can manage the second thing :). Some observations till today. As written in my earlier notes, I sprayed the yard with Momentum 4-Score on August 25th, with the measurements being approximately 1.7 fl.oz. per 1k sq.ft. The net application was a little bit m...

Re: thalaivar's Front Yard Fall 2020 Soil Test
My bad, I missed the very first line in the post. What is the frequency of this application? Do I do this till the first frost and secondly, what should be my course of action during the winter months.
Once again, thank you!

Re: thalaivar's Front Yard Fall 2020 Soil Test
What should be the application rate for the 10-10-10 fertilizer? If we are aiming for a 1lb of Nitrogen per 1k, then I will be looking at applying about 17lbs for my lot. If there is a different application rate, please do let me know.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Re: thalaivar's Front Yard Fall 2020 Soil Test
ken-n-nancy and andy, Thank you for the pointer to look at the big box stores for the balanced fertilizer. I was able to find 10-10-10 at a Walmart. I can get a couple of bags of that fertilizer. Based on reading other posts about addressing Boron, I should look to get the 20 Mule Team Borax and app...

Re: thalaivar's Front Yard Fall 2020 Soil Test
I have to get my elements correct. Given that both P and K are in need of remediation along with Boron, what type of action should I take. I am still trying to hunt around for a balanced fertilizer. The one Site One close to me, only had this balanced fertilizer. This one looks to be a slow release ...

Re: thalaivar's Front Yard Fall 2020 Soil Test
Sir Andy(The God), I have not really done anything in the front yard over the past 2 years apart from just basic fertilizing with Chickity Doo Doo. I don't have the actual bag handy, but I believe the N-P-K is around 5-3-2.5. I have not put any lime down at least in the past year. I did get a soil t...

thalaivar's Front Yard Fall 2020 Soil Test
Folks, Posting my soil test results for interpretation. https://i.postimg.cc/5XhrSsJX/Front-Main-Soil-Report-August2020.jpg I had posted previously in the "Lawn Renovations" forum about my approach to a partial renovation . The approach will be as given below: Wake up grass by applying 1lb of N/1k s...

Re: Question about re-seeding after applying triclopyr
I don't know but the question would be is 8% as mentioned in the "triangle approach" something that is a bare minimum in order to really hammer away at the level 2 weeds.
This one only has 4%.

Re: Question about re-seeding after applying triclopyr
Yes, I did miss documenting a step. The first step would be to spray using a generic broadleaf weed killer, I have this one, Momentum 4-Score. The makeup is 2,4-D, DMA Salt - 14.9% Fluroxypyr-meptyl - 4.5% Triclopyr - TEA - 4.0% Sulfentrazone - 0.9% The application rate for this one is about 1.7 fl ...

Question about re-seeding after applying triclopyr
Folks, I am planning a renovation for my front yard and have a few questions related to that. Have sent samples of soil to Logan to get a test done. As soon as that is available, will post it to the forum for interpretation. But in the meanwhile, I have started the triangle approach to getting rid o...

Re: Grass Seed
I believe there is some sort of a farmer's association in Riverhead called the Long Island Cauliflower Association that sells some top quality seed. Not sure how far you are from Riverhead, that might be a place to head to. I'm in no way affiliated with them, I had happened to hear of them from a re...

Re: Weed Identification
Folks, I'm trying to figure out the course of action for my front yard. Last year I did the backyard and overall, it's come out reasonably well. There are patches of weeds in the yard which I plan to spray over the next couple of days. I'm attaching some images to get confirmation of the different ...

Re: Restarting From Scratch
Folks, After the winter hiatus, I am looking to restart the process of maintaining the lawn. As part of the suggestions given above, I did put down the 9lb/k of the SoluCal. Based on the size of the lot, it was slightly more than 11lbs of SoluCal. I have tried to search for Sulfate of Potash and fou...

Re: Restarting From Scratch
The samples were taken at a depth ranging between 3-6 inches with a majority being in the 4-5 inch range. I think the magnesium being high is probably from the 225lbs of dolomitic lime I put down last year to bring up the ph. I had a soil test done last year from the Penn State Extension. They had s...

Re: Restarting From Scratch
A couple of things I noticed, even though the grass looked lush during the time from March till June, when the lawn was growing good, I did not like the look of that grass. It just felt too flimsy. After cutting it and even before a cut, it would look like the blades are just moving all over the pla...

Re: Restarting From Scratch
Changed my profile to reflect the lawn size. The lawn in the back is about 1400-1500 sq ft give or take a few. That's what I am tackling this year. Depending on how things go, I will tackle the front next year.
