Re: TTTF Overseed

I started using RGS and Air 8 from Green County a week ago. Hurricane remnants came through and dumped a couple or 3 inches of rain. Cut it yesterday and the lawn never looked better. Tomorrow I'm putting down Humic -12 using a backpack sprayer and then watering it in with the Ortho hose end sprayer...

Re: Hose end vs backpack

I noticed one video on Youtube where they used RGS, Air 8, and Humic 12 in one application with the backpack sprayer. Then they used the hose end sprayer with Microgreen to water it all in. Right now there's hurricane remnants producing thunderstorms watering in whatever I put down 2 days ago. Drivi...

Hose end vs backpack

Just started using Next biostimulant products. Just bought the Field King 4 gallon pump backpack sprayer and I have the Ortho hose end unit. I have 10k of tttf. Just used the backpack for RGS and Air 8, 2 gallons at a time for 10 gallons total. Took 2 hours to apply. If I use the Ortho, there isn’t ...

Re: TTTF Overseed

I started my lawn renovation 3 years ago and before that my knowledge of lawn care began and ended with weed and feed. At that time 50% of my lawn was destroyed by grubs and drought. The seed company I used was Hancock Seed. I think I got 35 lbs. of TTTF. I also used Scott’s starter fertilizer. Work...

Re: Mushroom soil or leaf compost?

Because rain is not coming as quickly as I would like in Lancaster, Pa. I decided to hold off on topdressing till the spring. Watering is expensive here, with water bills for 1 person in the $50/month range. I'm sure if I tried to water the entire lawn at 1 hour per day I would see a $200 bill. And ...

Re: Mushroom soil or leaf compost?

There are obvious areas of my yard that have lower levels of OM than others. Those areas are thinning, while other areas are rich and beautiful. I've treated for grubs 2x this year and we're in an area where Cicadae killer wasps will dig if the soil is bare. Not the sort of aeration I would prefer, ...

Mushroom soil or leaf compost?

I have been told that with an OM% of 3.64 I need more organic matter in my lawn. I think I'm going to topdress this September. I have 10k of lawn TTTF in central Pa. I can get mushroom soil for $20/scoop 1.5 cu. yds./per scoop. I can also get leaf compost from another vendor but I'm not sure of the ...

Re: Returning brown spot in front yard

I do soil testing annually but across entire lawn. I’m leaning towards crap dirt too. Compost is pretty cheap around here and I can get it on 1 cu ft bags. Otherwise I have to get 2 cubic yards for a minimum delivery. I think I can do the repairs in July. Getting 2nd cataract surgery in a week and I...

Returning brown spot in front yard

I live in central Pa. and have a TTTF lawn that is doing very well. I have owned the house since 11/2017 and found the lawn a mess of clover, wild violets, and bare spots. In the summer of 2019, grubs destroyed 1/2 of my lawn, front, back, etc. I have a topic on the recovery efforts. But the area pi...

Re: Grubs already?!?

I use grub ex in May and Dylox / Bio Advanced in July as a booster.

Last year I also had had my lawn sprayed for insects, namely Cicada killer wasps. Had the side benefit of killing the laying beetles I think.

Re: Weed Identification in Cool Season lawn

I think I have the same thing. I’d call it yellow nutsedge. If you use Sedgehammer, make sure you use a nonionic sulfactant. I bought a gallon because it doesn’t go bad. I also bought the bottle of Sedgehammer that does 40 gallons. The weed is a big problem in my neighborhood.

Best of luck.

Re: Fescue or nutsedge?

Applied Sedgehammer last Saturday and moved late Monday. 2 days later, spots are not growing quicker than surrounding grass now and appears to be getting lighter in color. Got a new Chapin tow behind spreader with autostop. Put down rest of Barricade, although it might be a little late. And I put do...

Re: Grass is lumpy

My gator blades leave clumps too. I’d say raise the blade as high as you can if you have tttf. And try to cut more often. My Cub cadet goes up to 3.5 inches. Blow the clumps across the lawn to let them settle in.

It goes without saying, make sure your blades are sharp.

Re: Soil Test Tom Picciani March 2021

I hear you. It’s what I could get quick. I did find Brant ferrous sulfate for$42, of course after buying ironite. From groworganic. Com. I’ll get that next time. But from 3 years of following the advice on this forum, no clover, no dandelions, no wild violets. That has never been my lawn EVER! Thank...

Re: Soil Test Tom Picciani March 2021

Ok I ordered 3 25 pound bags of iron supplement, ironite. And I ordered 50 pounds of Lesco starter fertilizer. Getting too old to push the spreader that much. I ordered a Chapin pull behind spreader with auto-stop. A little overkill for 10k of lawn. But better than a heart attack, lol. Trying to get...

Re: Soil Test Tom Picciani March 2021

I’m 5 miles from the Susquehanna River so that might explain some of the soil peculiarities. I put down 50 lbs of iron, 25 lbs at a time over 10k last year. Didn’t seem to change the numbers. How do you feel about Milorganite to raise the om %? And I was planning on using starter fertilizer anyway b...

Apologies for cross posting. Just trying to show what I got. Two years ago, half that lawn was dead from grubs!

Re: Soil Test Tom Picciani March 2021

I m just looking to see if I need any corrections to the soil. Overall I think I’m doing ok. No bare spots this year. Lots of clumps where I treated for nutsedge last 2 years. I’m concerned about organic matter percentage. I’m mulching every mowing. But overall I’m just wondering if I need anything ...

Re: Fescue or nutsedge?

The roots are about 4 inches at most and I did feel some little rocky balls at the end of the roots. I mowed yesterday. Will wait till Saturday or Sunday. It's going to be too windy till then and I don't like spraying in the wind. It's uncouth! If it's fescue, nothing will happen. If it's nutsedge, ...
