Re: Transformer Oil Spill on Lawn - Clean Up Experience?

I spilled a couple of gallons of diesel fuel before a 2008 renovation and it did no harm as far as I could tell. I remember my friend telling me that grass would probably not grow but the grass germinated in the spill area normally.

Re: Transformer Oil Spill on Lawn - Clean Up Experience?

How old was the transformer? The older ones (1978 and earlier) used PCB in the oil.

Re: backpack sprayer recommendation

The Chapin battery powered sprayer can hold up to 4 gallons (34 lbs) and weighs about 8 lbs empty. Obviously you don't have to fill it up all the way. It does make spraying relatively easy compared to the pump sprayer. Finding one at a Lowes for $99 is a bit of a challenge right now around here. Mos...

Re: Opinions on bobcat mowers?

Looks like it has belt drives on the wheels which are ok on smaller units but a lot of professionals swear by the hydro drives. Reversing the mower is more difficult with belts. But belts are less expensive to maintain. I have a 33" Cub Cadet that I cut about 20 ksf with. Takes about 45 min to an ho...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens

So, looking at going the urea route this year. Is it difficult to apply such a small amount? 1lb per / k using 46-0-0 weekly. I've got one of these: ImageUploadedByYard Help1469274576.469305.jpg Sent from my iOS device using the Yard Help App That is what I use for urea on about 20 ksf. I calibrate...

I like the Primetime blend as well. I can get 50 lbs for about $70 including tax.

Re: Lawn Treatment for Tall Fescue

Fertilize with Milorganite, it will help with color due to the iron content. I believe you have a relatively small area so that should be an easy DIY. I normally would not fertilize this time of year but it might help to get the lawn past the fungal issue. You could fertilize a small test patch to b...

Re: Anything comparable to Heritage G for fungus problems

Ric how old is your lawn? Is this the first summer? IIRC you got a late start last fall but this could be a different lawn.

Did you have any spring issues?

Re: Anything comparable to Heritage G for fungus problems

There is a "generic" azoxystrobin (same as Heritage) called Stobe 50WG, about half the cost per AI but the smallest available size is 16 oz for about $226 (you can get Heritage in 4 oz bottles for $120) http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/strobe-50wg-p-14515.html?gclid=CN7qztvLtM0CFdgOgQodN6oOMA There...

Mow 16 on 6-16-16 in the books. Thankfully was only 96 F and not 116 F.

Re: Do I need to use Fungicide?

Othertime has a nice thread on his NoVA fungicide regimen here:

http://aroundtheyard.com/northern/almos ... =othertime

I am doing the ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure with chemical fungicides this summer, at least on the areas that get brown patch every year.

Re: 2 acres for a backpack sprayer

There is a long thread on the Chapin 20V battery powered backpack sprayer in the equipment forum. It puts out 0.5 gpm so for a 1gal/ksf that is two minutes, it is 4 gallons so about 8 minutes between fill ups. It would take 88 minutes of continuous spraying plus fill up time for two acres. I definit...
