Re: Still have time to see in SW pa?

So - still ok to drop seed or am I doomed to a spring seeding, short-term happiness, dead grass in the summer and a fall seeding in 2021? It seems that you are still in a great time to seed. Just so it right. You have three months or so of growing season left. I'm in South Central Pa so I'm familia...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens

For a recently sodded area, I might be more tempted to spoon-feed it at a lower rate. Recent sod doesn't have a deep or extensive root system, but the spoon feeding will help it grow one. Ultimately, a spoon feeding at--say--a quarter pound of nitrogen per K per week would still result in a huge am...

Re: Got Urea?

I called SiteOne in Harrisburg and thankfully they didn't have it. After seeing the great feed mills pricing (thanks MorpheusPA!), I found a nearby mill with it in stock. Hoke Mills in York PA for $12.50 per 50 lb bag. By the way, I just did a search on Google for Feed Mills near me and found this o...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens

I am planning on doing the aggressive fall nitrogen approach for my established front and side lawn. Do you think it is ok for the same aggressive approach on my back yard that was sodded in mid-August? It is about 3k sq ft. I am also planning to do some soil conditioning (BLSC) to help with root es...

Re: Turn The Page (or maybe "Welcome to 2021")

Thanks for the reminder Andy! I second KnN's comments. My mind in the Fall is now conditioned to Andy's checklist... Prodiamine down, wake-up milo going down on Saturday and already starting to get some leaves to mulch for OM. I have some woody weeds starting to get a little active, so I'll be hitti...

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Applied Prodiamine 65 WDG at 0.15oz/k in the front yard. Still no rain in So Central PA... watered the new turf and plants in the back again.

Re: Got Urea?

I get it at SiteOne Harrisburg PA. I think I paid $40 for 50lbs last year. They try to sell you timed release and get a little confused even about what they have, so press them to bring the bag out.

Re: Split app of Pre emergent

I also do a split app of Prodiamine and it seems to be working well. Look at the data sheet for what you are applying, so you know the duration of protection, and back up from typical Forsyhia blooms in your area. For my yard, I did Aug 20th in 2018, Aug 24th in 2019 and plan about the same for 2020...

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Watered the baby grass by the creek and the new landscaping in back. No rain in weeks... so watering 3/4 of an acre off my well is getting worrisome.

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Walked the lawn today after 1+5/8" of rain last night to figure out what lawn work should be done today. Today would be a normal "mowing day" for us, being four days after the prior mowing. Seems to me that it has grown less than usual with the 85F-95F daytime highs we've had lately, but it's defin...

new fescue mix sod

I've been offline for awhile as we dealt with covid and major renovation of our kitchen and back yard. The good news is that we have our house back and the yard looks great. Given the time of year, I elected to have them put down a fescue mix sod. I've been working on a long term soil conditioning p...

Cut at 3.5" and sprayed a second application of Triclopyr. Clover and grassy weeds pretty much gone. Also, moved some sod plugs to bare spots in the front.

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Applied 50lbs of Ferrous Sulfate (2.3 lbs/k) with the tractor mounted prayer. Spot sprayed glyphosate. Also, mounted and played with the Johnny Bucket as I get ready to use the new toy for tan bark this year.

Re: So when do we drop the PreM?

Good guidance? Nothing specific. There just comes a time around late May in my yard where the lawn seems to start to "lose its steam" and that's when I pick up with the Nitrogen efforts for the year. The people with "itchy trigger fingers" want to get outside and do something and often pull the tri...
