Re: Fertilizer w/ Weed Control

My opinion... This process is a marathon. Continue to read and learn. Start with a simple pyramid approach to weeds. Next step, get a soil test from Logan Labs, so you can get a good plan. Two years from now, you will be thrilled.

Re: Prodiamine rate question

Look at page 2 for the appropiate application rates and page 3 for the reseeding instructions. If you apply correctly, it seems that a fall reseeding shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Broadcast Spreader Recommendations

I've had the Earthway 2170 commercial for a few years and it works great. It has pneumatic tires and 100 lb capacity. Now, on my hilly terrain, I tend to keep the loads below that...

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Mounted my deck and did a little cutting. At 4" cut hejght, I had a suprising amount of clippings to mulch for mid-March. Also, cleaned up some debris.

I just got word from Susan Shaner, owner of Logan Labs, and she says that they are open and testing for as long as they are able.

Re: So when do we drop the PreM?

Is your lawn greened-up and beginning growth? If not, providing Nitrogen can have the effect of forcing it to break dormancy, and that can lead to stress in the short-term. Stress often rears its head as fungal disease later. If you don't wait for green-up and natural growth, and the grass DOESN'T ...

Re: How Is Everyone Doing? (Coronavirus)

We're at home witth the hatches battened down and working from home. My wife, two teen age girls, two dogs and myself. I'm with you...getting old fast... I did get my prodiamine down this weekend, so I can still work on the yard (thankfully I'm stocked). Also have a new 12x20' shed that I've been ge...

Re: It's Finally the Day I Consider the Beginning of Spring!!

Wow... it looks like my area is going to have our first winter without snow in a long time. We had a couple of dustings but nothing beyond that. I was a little worried because Southcentral PA can sometimes whacked in mid-March with snow, but the forecast is clear into April. Figures, I bought a new ...

To give yourself a basic level of education, read the very helpful "Triangle Approach" article at this link and follow it https://aroundtheyard.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=161:weed-control-the-qtriangle-approachq&catid=9&Itemid=117 . Funny you post this... I'm with @mobiledynamics. I was just noticing that my lawn is looking nice and green, especially compared to my neighbors. I figured it was just the perfect timing of my last nitrogen application :).

Re: 'New' House old lawn Restoration 2020

Hi Kent I think my thing with pre-emergents is that I have avoided chemicals as much as possible my whole adult life. I had planned on getting a degree in turf management at one point but left the field because of all the chemicals. I had another yard that was a weed patch, it came around nicely in...

Re: Happy New Year and 2020 Changes in your Plans

A few changes for me... Need to get soil tested in the spring. Also, doing a large (professional) renovation of my back yard with substantial regrading, new fencing and adding new 12x20' barn for the tractor and related lawn stuff. While the back is getting professional attention, I am planning on u...

Re: 'New' House old lawn Restoration 2020

Masbustelo, Looks like a great project! I'm sure you will get it looking great in no time. One thing I didn't see you mention is pre-M...I'd want to put down a pre-M, like Prodiamine, in the spring. Maybe even hold that seed for the fall and get the weeds under control first with a simple triangle a...

Here is an alternative that I love for older machines. It converts your old rig to a Chromebook and it is very fast.
