Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation
That RU worked fast. I generally use the generic version which I think is missing one of the components of brand name RU - it works a lot slower. Do you have a back pack sprayer? You might want to add it to the collection of tools. Especially for things like blanket spraying tenacity. I used the pu...

Re: Schreibdave's 2020 Backyard Renovation
Best of luck! Love the side-by-side of KBG vs PR. I'll give it 5-6 days and then I will start scalping it in 1/2" increments. I am going to try to mulch the dead grass rather than bag it - any thoughts on that idea? I started my scalping today and, although it's going to be a pain to haul all the cl...

Re: jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation
Yesterday (7/30) was my original 1st glyphosate day. The weatherman actually got a long term forecast right and it rained steadily almost all day. Since I knew it was my only day off of work for the week and the chance of rain was high, I decided to pull the trigger earlier. I did 1st app on 7/26. U...

Re: Bonehead move
Designated Glyphosate Sprayer... sharpie, tape, etc, anything to draw attention to it and mark it as single product use. 20 bucks can get you a cheap 1 gallon and a hose end sprayer. I know mistakes can still happen, but too much of a chance of residuals left in the tank if you are using Round-Up in...

Re: Lawn disaster
Depending on what your target date is for seeding, you are cutting it close for a weed treatment. You will have to read product labels, but most of the weed be gone type products (2,4-D, dicamba, etc.) recommend waiting at least 2 weeks or more to seed.

I've worked a lot on conditioning the soil over the last year and haven't had anything even near that dramatic this year.

jskierko's Fall 2020 Bewitched Front Renovation
Background: Moved into this house in 2012 (house had 1 prior owner, built in 2011). Yard was likely seeded with contractors mix or simple northern mix. I have overseeded a few years back with a Scott's Sun and Shade mix, so right now the lawn is a good mix of bluegrass, rye, and fine fescue (with so...

Re: Weather radar anxiety
I promise you that if make a list for an upcoming timeframe that says "I will mow tomorrow" or "I will put down a foliar application that mustn't be watered in for x hours" the weather gods will find a way to bring rain at the least opportune time for your plans. So if you are desperate and feel you...

Re: Anyone still dropping Milo?
I have only been dropping Milo in small doses where I transplanted some sod/plugs. I have also been spreading it in landscaping beds, as I find it to be a much greater rabbit repellent than the liquid fence sprays. The lawn is growing well, but it really seems to be a struggle to get it to consisten...

Re: Humic, etc. / newbie
I did my first app of this today: SLS, yucca, humic, kelp. I have a pretty solid clay soil (most recent TEC of 16.8) and high traffic areas get worn down and rugged looking this time of year, especially given the recent dry conditions. Probably will repeat every 2 weeks through summer and see if I c...

Re: Is this bentgrass? Floppy bright green top heavy grass?
The problem with a full renovation of the area is 1) I have hard clay soil that washes out easily, combined with a decent grade in the front of the property, I don think establishing seed with be too fun 2) I want bluegrass so trying to seed the entire front. man.... basically I have to hope it doe...

Re: Too late to move sod?
I extended out some landscape beds about 2 weeks ago and had 3 good size areas where I transplanted sod (a triv area I dug up earlier in the spring, an area where I cut down a struggling Eastern Redbud, and where my satellite dish once lived- I cut the cable). Definitely takes continual monitoring t...

No rain predicted for ~3 days, Serenade 4oz/k. Neighbors saw me come out with the sprayer, looked at me like I was Clark Griswold with a chainsaw, and almost immediately retreated into their house.

Applied propiconazole. Have noticed several areas of red thread throughout the yard, a bit surprised since last fall was my first going through fall N regimen, maybe it just ran out of steam early in the spring. Have 2.5 gal Serenade on hand to keep problem at bay.

Re: How Do You Rate The 2019 Season For Your Lawn?
A-/B+: First season on the forum, thanks to all for the wisdom and knowledge! First soil test, installation of 14 zone irrigation system, first year going through aggressive Nitrogen regimen, better mowing habits (higher mowing height through warm season) leading to less weed pressure. Goals for nex...
