Re: How to handle lawn rust during the pause?
Try a liquid fungicide. My normal go to would be feeding the grass. But you are too late in the season and in the pause. Your other approach is to wait until you your last dose at the end of the pause. Rust looks bad. But it’s not going to kill your whole lawn like other pathogens. Rust is a disease...

Re: Help with Zoysia suppression
You’re too late in the year to do anything about Zoysia in NJ. Nothing is going to suppress zoysia that’s gone dormant. The time to deal with it is June/July when the grass is thriving. But I got to say, if you don’t want to kill it all off and start new, I don’t think you’re going to have much succ...

I’d take a sample to your local county coop extension for analysis, if it were me.

This time of year, it could be a lot of different things. Localized dormancy. Fungal issues, etc.

A couple of days of warm weather won’t move the soil temperature needle all that much.

Re: K31 Germination and Growth
It’s fall - even in Atlanta (tonight’s low there is forecast in the 30s according to the National Weather Service).
Grass growth just slows down in the cooler weather.

Lay them out in the afternoon sun. Wait an hour and then have at it. It’s always worked for me, even in Winter

Re: NH Overseed Advice
No need to apologize. I wanted to be sure to make it clear that over seeding is actually a common and useful practice. It’s not frowned upon here. Have you read the plan? The reason I ask is if my recollection is correct, you’re far too late in the season to begin thinking about how plan will work i...

Re: NH Overseed Advice
No one here says overseeding won’t work. So I’m not sure what you mean by that.
Overseeding is fine, depending on your expectations. Though generally there is some research indicating seeding KBG into a Rye lawn won’t be successful.

Re: Ethofumesate for crabgrass prevention?
Why waste resources on a lawn you already plan to kill a few months later? It’s your choice. But if it were my yard, I’d focus on spot killing the bent with roundup. Apply Dimension in the spring (roughly late March) to keep crabgrass at bay. Live with the dead spots from the spot spray. Then do the...

Re: Ethofumesate for crabgrass prevention?
Yeah. It doesn’t work well as a pre-emergent for crabgrass. Years of experience tell me that if you are planning a renovation next fall, you shouldn’t play around with the bentgrass now. If it were me, I’d hit the bent with roundup and live with the dead spots until August. It’s not like the Bent wo...

Re: Ethofumesate for crabgrass prevention?
Generally not great. Why not use something more mainstream, like Tenacity. Even better, if you’re open to fertilizing in the spring (not all of us are), use the Scotts product with the same active ingredient. Since this is a forum aimed at regular home owners, I tend to use the brand name users will...

The fall nitrogen regimen (written up by Andy) tends to be the best thing you can do to encourage faster spread. That’s assuming you can follow all the steps. Ymmv

Re: Regrowth in Dead Patches
The KBG spreads via underground runners. In my experience, the thin layer of dead grass on top isn’t going to stop those rhizomes from spreading (underground) If you have an inch or more of real thatch (not dead grass clippings but real thatch), it might make sense. But most folks think that thatch ...

Sorry for your loss of Myrtle. That’s a pretty expensive ”mistake” on the waste management company’s part.

The idea that KBG spreads best at 2.5-inches. That has not been my experience.

Re: Newly Established Tall Fescue - When Should I Overseed to Fill-In Gaps
Yep. I’d only mow it with a lightweight Reel mower.. I’ve always kept a Scott’s reel mower around just for that purpose. I’d not suggest using a powered mower on it.
