Heritage DF 50 replacement

I have Heritage, propicanazol, and serenade in my fungicide arsenal. My Heritage is DF 50 and I’m just about out of it. I understand that this form of Heritage is no longer available, but there are other options. I’m looking for an azoxystrobin that can be used in a backpack sprayer. I’d appreciate ...

Great job! Keep an eye out for any zoysia blades that might have survived. It’ll start to spread again if just a bit wasn’t killed. Looks super

Re: Balancing Watering New Grass and Fungus

I’m not an expert but I’d back off the watering and focus on getting the seedlings that germinated well established. The most recent seed may germinate and even if it does it may or may not get established by winter. I agree that balancing water for seed put down at different times can be a challeng...

Re: Sprayer options for large hilly yard

I had the S25 and had to replace the pump twice. I gave up on it and bought the My4Sons backpack sprayer, which I like much better.

Re: Thoughts on 2020 Summer Sesaon Results

My lawn is in its worst shape in the 30years I’ve been here. July and early August were very hot and humid with almost no cool down at nights. Despite irrigation, three preventative fungicide applications (seemingly not enough) and mowing at 3.5 inches, I got some drought stress and fungus. On top o...

Re: Is this the correct plan for killing bentgrass with tenacity?

I recently completed three applications at the 4 oz rate about a week apart. Plenty of whitening of the bent for sure. I raked the areas, seeded, and top dressed with peat moss. I’m pretty sure I didn’t kill it all, unfortunately. As I’ve been watering some of it seems to be coming back. In retrospe...

Re: 2020: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Yesterday I overseeded spots totaling about 4000 sq ft. I know I’m a bit late but was up in Vermont last week and didn’t have enough seed to do it earlier (spring is the time to obtain seed, as many here state). I was able to get 25 lbs of Gold Tag Bewitched at a decent price. I used some about 6 lb...

Re: Disease EX Application?

Ira e both Heritage and Diseaseex. Diseaseex has both a preventative and higher curative rate on the label. If you applied it at a higher rate than preventative wouldn’t that provide more AI and a stronger application? Aren’t we more concerned with the AI and it’s amount than a brand name or label?...

According to this study by Rutgers, Wisconsin and Kentucky, azoxystrobin is effective against pythium.

Re: Disease EX Application?

I need to drop some Disease EX ASAP (Pythium). My grass is wet from showers last night. Is it OK to apply it today on damp lawn and water it in right away? It really doesn't say on the directions. (Dry or wet lawn) Would it hinder the efficacy of it? Also , would it be OK to fertilize this weekend ...

Re: Status of POACure? (Updated 02/2020 below)

Just want to provide a quick update on the use of Poacure at the golf course I belong to. The area that the grounds super used it on (a fairly long par four fairway and rough) is pristine and no reemergence of Poa Trivialis. The guy, and I, are really impressed.

Re: How to get rid of wide blade (pasture?) fescue

Many thanks Morpheus! I’ll do a follow up post on my progress. I think it was probably bird poop or deer poop (they stopped hunting here in the early ‘70s and deer have overrun things.) thanks again!

How to get rid of wide blade (pasture?) fescue

I have no idea how I got at least a couple dozen clumps of fescue (not TTTF, a wide blade pAsture fescue). I have a feeling that getting rid of it means glyphosate or digging it up. Any selective herbicides for this? if I have to dig it out, how deep should I dig? I think I’ve read the roots go deep...

No, it doesn't suck up moisture from the seeds. It is often hydrophobic (repels water) at first. A nice slow, gentle watering the first time gets it out of the way, never to return. It's so simple as to almost not remembered sometimes.
Many thanks Andy!

Question re hydrating peat moss

I remember reading a post (I think from Andy) about hydrating peat moss the first time after using it as a top dress over new seed. I seem to remember the importance of getting it saturated the first watering so it would stay damp and help retain moisture; while failing to do so would actually suck ...

Re: First overseeding plan

I generally put down about 1/8 of an inch of peat moss on time of the seed. I believe the peat moss, once down, needs be be hydrated so your first watering will e more than subsequent watering, in my opinion. Overseeding the same grass types, as you are doing, is a lot easier than trying to o traduc...
