Re: Dormant Seeding Work for you.

for all you dormant seeders out there what camp do you fall in once dormant seeded - do you check germination once temps are in the right temps - do you do another round of -dormant seeding- just in case seeds got windblown, washed out - do you do another drop of seed once soil is up to temp just fo...

Re: It's Finally the Day I Consider the Beginning of Spring!!

I got all my Dormant Pruning done. I'm scratching my head here as I look at the bulb beds.....Sure, I see planty of daffodils emerging past the mulch (which is normal). They tend to stop/stall right below the mulch line and then when they know it's getting warmer, out she pokes. However, I'm only se...

Systemic Application - When

hedge row of boxwoods got hit with some mites......lotsa leaf damage Just finished up the dormart pruning of the box. A mix of hard shearing removing most of the leaves. Some of them appear to be hit pretty hard as the leaves inside also appear to have mite dame. I also hand pruned-selective pruned,...

Re: Pointless double Pre-M after Tenacity

yeah, I know. I will have to dig up the labels on it and see rehash what it says on -new growth-. I guess it will also depend if my -dormant seeding- goes potentially give me a 10-14 day faster germ. rate into the spring season I suppose.

Pointless double Pre-M after Tenacity

If I do a broadcast spray on tenacity on a small area I overseed, give it take 3-4 weeks later, would it be pointless/useless to lay down something like Prodiamine after Tenacity's life window. Depending on how much growth I see out of the overseed, I might just do a second app of Tenacity

Favorite Lopper

In my stash of loppers - Felco, ARS Bypass. One Barnel Anvil. Did not like the Felco's Bypass Lopper - was cutting down some shrub woody stems - dormant time, right before end frost/spring. The other business end is serrated. Ended up using my ARS loppers for the task. I think I might order me a Pro...

Re: Dormant Seeding Work for you.

I see we're all roughly in the same area.... I dropped seed last week. Since it's been so mild, I wanted to drop seed so that it could see some thaw cycles as I don't see much freezing going into March and it's Feb. already I am concerned about potential seed rot.......typical wet winters/early spri...

Seed Storage - Breath or Not ?

I've got a chamber vac ----for food stuff.
For storing leftover seed, does it need to be in a cool dry place with some level of non-airtighness to breathe/vent/etc. Kinda like storing Spring Bulbs ?

Or is it better if I just vac seal them in a bag ?

Re: Dormant Seeding Work for you.

I put down seed today on a couple of bare patches. With this fairly mild winter, I was not sure if going into Feb, I would be seeing some dipping temps. I can't picture the soil freezing to the point where it -draws- the seed in for better S2S contact, but I know there are lotsa posts on it. Will be...

Seed Cultivars at the Big Box

Off topic....I know seed mixes are regional at the big box store. Getting spring fever here so browsing the aisles. The same -blend- name in what appears similar date batches (maybe off by 2 months), the blend is different in 7lb bag versus 3lb. I can understand how corporate dictates blend changes ...

Aside from what the label says, what has been your experience with Tenacity applied Post directly seeding during the Germination Window and or post germination On Young 1st Blade/Shoot...... In my experience sofar, when apply at half rate in both scenarios, the only side effect would be some bleachi...

Re: Dormant Seeding Work for you.

Yes, on soil temps Are we concluding then dormant seeding is - beneficial for S2S contact, due to frost heavinging substrate - potential faster germination / establishment with (slower germinating cultivars) I kinda wanna say the germination time of KBG isn't too shabby in late fall. A week -10 days...

Is it plausible to also dormant seed to early. I see the post on putting seed on snow - in the recent replies in this thread
If it remains too wet for too long before germination, any concerns about rot ?

Re: Dormant Seeding Work for you.

While I have notobserved if there is -actual- movement in the soil when freeze/thaw occurs, I definitely do see said effects in all areas where there is mulch. Onc can observe pockets/displacement/breaks in the mulch - but then again, mulch is fairly light compared to soil that also has knitted turf...
