Re: Complements from a stranger

I created a new thread to try tti reduce the thread jacking: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=27170

It's there a way for an admin to move the last few posts about my native lawn to that thread?

Status of my lawn

I'm starting a new thread so we don't hijack the other one any further. ^So, are those natives grass species keeping any green color in the dry heat? They're all warm season, right? Or are some cool season? And sorry if you mentioned it recently, but how much rain has occurred this Spring there? Sur...

Re: Complements from a stranger

By the way, bpgreen: How does your lawn look with the drought? Is it still green? Brown and dormant? I'm no longer allowed to water outside at all. But the native and naturalized grasses have become a bigger portion of the lawn, so it's doing ok. Nothing like the showcase learns so many here have, ...

Re: Complements from a stranger

I have to move.

Those rainfall totals would be amazing. They're close to winter amounts here (summer it's close to 0).

Re: Complements from a stranger

I haven't heard the term "grasshole" before, but I live in Utah, and they'd never call the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street hellstrip here, either. There's a big difference between keeping a lawn that nice in Indiana vs California. Most of the west is in a multi-year drought, and C...

Re: GermanShep's Soil Test - Spring 2022

The Auditors have left me alone this morning. I always envision them as the Pratchett type, wearing smoky gray robes and looking for ways to unravel reality. Completely off topic and it may not be the same kind of auditors, but this reminds me of something and I can't resist sharing the story. Year...

I think your attorney gave you good advice. You should be "made whole" so the elite kbg sod makes sense.

Did he also say you should ask for legal fees to be paid?

Side note: autocorrect wanted legal to be lethal. I almost kept it.

My first thought is that you may need a lawyer. I hope I'm wrong.

Photographed it. It's a phenomenally extended spring/early "summer" this year. I have to turn the edge of the killed gardens where I re-established the garden edge.

I don't know enough about the grass to comment on that, but please (please, please) don't ever mow barefoot again, unless you use a mower like mine

Mowing barefoot is a good way to lose a foot.

Actually, there's not a good way to lose a foot. But mowing barefoot is one way to do it.

Re: Adding Triclopyr to WBG

This is probably blasphemy, but why not let the clover live? I purposely planted clover both for its nitrogen fixing and its drought tolerance. I remember being with my dad in the 60s and he was getting a custom mix and requested clover in the mix. Clover wasn't considered a weed until relatively re...

Hammer. Blender. Power press. Bigger power press. Whatever it takes to get it to return to powder state is absolutely fine!

Re: Tall Fescue Seeded in September Dying Off in June

I'm not sure the finer blades of grass are tall fescue.

Was it a fescue mix with tall and fine fescue? There are a number of different finer fescues (red, chewings, sheep, for example). But they tend to be less robust than tall fescue, and also tend to flop.

Re: 2022: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

I mowed. But it rained last weekend, which meant that I missed what should've been a mowing, *and* it grew faster.

Since my mower is a manual reel mower, that means there's a lot of tall grass after mowing, so I'll need to use the weed eater later this week and mow again.

Anything that returns to powder is usable. Anything that didn't gets the hammer again.
Morph, you gave him Rule #1 and Rule #2, but skipped Rule #3.

Rule #3: "If multiple hammer hits fail, "GET A BIGGER HAMMER".
Or one of those blenders ths guys use on the "will it blend?" YouTube channel.

Would this work to deter voles?

I bought a big jug of something that seems to keep them from digging up my lawn, but they still visit. Maybe I'll try this when I finish that off.

I mostly use e- e-wax when making lotion, and it has been some time, but now that you mention it, I think I didn't actually boil anything. I think I just heated it until everything melted and mixed together.

Re: 2022: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Not today, but a few days ago, we had 3 days off rain in the forecast. I threw some crested wheatgrass and western wheatgrass seed in the hopes that 3 days off rain might bre enough to get some germination. Got a bonus rain today (didn't feel like a bonus since I was cycling home from my swim). I'm ...
