Re: Hydretain Moisture Management
The main focus I have with a soil surfactant is to make the soil a better environment for the microbes and turf. After all, if the soil is penetrable for deeper root growth, hopefully; that will allow for a healthier mico flora/-microbes deeper in the soil. Am I looking at this soil conditioner's b...

Re: Rainfall data?
Yesterday afternoon there was a downpour outside my office window. I went home (2.2 miles) an hour later, and there wasn't a drop in my rain gauge. I only trust the rain gauge in my own yard.

Need ground cover suggestions
I used to have two large beds of ivy growing on the slope between the back yard and the patio. It was planted there when we bought the house 32 years ago and has been there ever since. Cold winters sometimes made it die back, but it always survived and grew back. Until now. The last couple of winter...

Re: Feed as fertilizer
Also, i thought i remember reading somewhere that if you divide protein by 4 you get a rough estimate of nitrogen content? Or is there a lot more to it than that? The conversion factor for nitrogen to protein is typically given as 6.25, so you could use that to estimate the nitrogen content of your...

Re: "Not Labeled for Residential Use"
For the most part, it means that while it's not a Restricted Use item, the instructions, measurement, application or something else is more complicated that the average homeowner can handle, and the manufacturer doesn't want to be responsible for screwed-up uses of the product. The label may discus...

Re: Brown Dead Lawn
More info about your hay question that's left out above: I'm not sure where the idea came from--maybe you saw bales of something at a lawn center or saw landscapers using bales of something on grass plantings. Those bales are straw, not hay. Straw is the stems of a grain plant after the grain is rem...

Re: Shaded Backyard
All you KBG in the shade gurus, what advice can you give? I tried searching here on ATY but all the threads that come up only talk about how some members have succeeded with it but I couldn't find info on how... You can also try PGR, a bit less watering in the shade, and cutting half as often (pref...

Re: Grass Slow to Come Out of Dormancy.
You've received some good advice above, and I don't want to contradict any of that, but I'll add a contrarian note. Your grass wakes up later than your neighbors'. So what? Mine does too, and it just means I don't have to start mowing as early. Seriously, I have this elite KBG, and my neighbor has a...

Re: Please ID this weed
Instead of starting another thread about a weed I'll just leave this here and hopefully get an answer. Can anyone tell me what this is that keeps popping up in this one small spot of my backyard? I tried to dig it out and it came back. I've never planted anything in this spot except grass but it al...

Re: Did I create a weed monster?
If that was truly straw (and I doubt Home Depot was selling bales of hay), it's much more likely that your weeds are wheat or oats or whatever kind of straw it was. These plants should be annuals and die over winter. That's probably not much comfort for the time between now and then.

Not by the ton, but EH Griffith sells thousand-pound bags. Forklift not included. http://catalog.ehgriffith.com/info.php/ ... ts_id/12321977212 wrote:Would be nice if they sold bulk milo by the ton at landscape places like they do with compost.

Re: Buying a Mac: Best Buy or Apple Store??
I work at a university and use the university computer store for purchases sometimes. The Mac discounts there are currently no better than you can get from Apple directly, $50 or $100, depending on model. Apple maintains pretty good control over retail pricing at its authorized resellers, so there ...

Re: Killing Lawn Weeds in the Fall
Now is actually a great time to kill weeds. In fact, there was a Purdue (I think) study on killing violets and ground ivy that recommended herbicide treatments in the fall because that's when the perennial weeds are storing resources for next spring's growth. The translocation of the herbicide to th...

Re: Soil Conditioner and Kelp Help Plus Humates in Clay Soil
My point is simply that the active ingredients in the soil conditioner are surfactants. So you don't need to add another surfactant for the soil conditioner to do its job.andy10917 wrote:Technically true. However, their job is to be a flocculant in the soil.

Re: Calculating NPK
I figured one thing out. I tried out the formula in the article using their example, which is 4.94 lbs N / 5000 sq ft = 0.98 lbs N per 1,000 sq ft. However, 4.94 divided by 5000 is 0.00098, not 0.98. So either their formula is wrong or I'm missing something here, again... [ Post made via Android ] ...
