The Pause... It looks like the first frost was October 30th here and grass is still growing a bit.

Re: What Do You Use For A Final Winter HOC?

This was my first year on this forum and following a plan. I was using a 4" for spring/summer and then progressively lowered to 3" now. My yard is pretty hilly and uneven, so I don't plan on going any lower.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

The last few weeks has produced few leaves, so not too much to do. Then...my wife and I decide to go away last week for a long weekend. Now, my yard is surrounded by big hardwoods and of course they all unloaded while I gone. After catching up at work, I finally got away from the office a little ear...

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

Mowed and mulched leaves at 3". Most of the big hardwoods are still holding leaves in my area. I'm guessing by next weekend we'll get a big drop.

Cut to 3" ... mulched up a bunch of leaves and grass for the microherd. Getting ready for the pause.

Re: Hints for Larger Lawn Leaf Mulching

Good list Andy!

Yesterday, I gave the microherd a nice meal of grass and leaves yesterday. I also used the backpack leaf blower to spread the leaves as evenly as possible. My new Cub Cadet mulched everything up nicely with a few passes.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

On Saturday, with the weather cloudy in the 70s. Cut (mulched) to 3", spot sprayed Bayer All-in-One (2,4-D, Quinclorac & Dicamba), and also used Off on a hose end sprayer for Mosquitos. 80s today and this week. Will Fall ever come? Will the sun ever come back?

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

Mowed the lawn at 3.5" and starting to get some leaves to mulch. Weather in the high 70s to mid-80s this week and more sun. Grass is growing and looks happier. Mosquitos are really bad too. Two weeks to typical frost, but that is hard to imagine.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

Grass is growing... lots of rain from Florence earlier in the week and again on Friday night. I also raised the deck from 3" to 3.5" due to growth and cut. My new cub did a good job mulching the grass and leaves that have starting coming down. Spot sprayed (6 gallons since I have a ton of clover and...

Re: Fall Starts Today: What's Your Goal?

I was doing my soil remediation plan through August and, finally, I put down Milo with no micros at the bag rate on August 25th. I also bought 50 pounds of Urea to get ready for Fall Nitrogen (non-agressive...1 application). I'm waiting for "the pause" to drop it. The local weather has been warm and...

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?

Cut the grass to 3" on Saturday and did a little shady mix overseeding in the back yard with peat moss on Sunday. Remnants of Hurricane Florence hit around lunchtime, so it looks like rain for a few days.

Re: Cut wet grass or let it grow?

Too funny, I came home from work yesterday and checked Accuweather. It said no rain for 120 minutes. Promptly after I started mowing, it promptly poured down rain on me :banghead: I laughed and kept on cutting. FWIW, I was mulching on my tractor. The lawn looks happy enough today.

Re: Moss or mold issues

Hmmm... I put down last Milo this past weekend (bag rate and no micros), and also filled a few spots with seed and peat moss. I noticed yesterday that a lot of the shady areas of the lawn have a weird light green mold. This week is blazing hot (high 90s) and should cool down soon. Should I worry abo...
