Re: Professional sports fields - pH maintenance?

Good to know but there's gotta be more to the story. My TEC is 1.49 with an OM% of 2.84. Having sandy soils based on a jar test is one thing but do you have soil tests for those properties that show OM% as well? I've done 3 fast acting lime apps per season the last 2 years (only 2 years I've been he...

Re: Professional sports fields - pH maintenance?

No worries I appreciate the response anyway. I actually did some more research of my own today and found an article detailing the design of a sand based athletic field and the short answer is that I didn't get the whole answer of the root zone structure before. It is a sand root zone but they mix in...

Re: Bales9er's 2019 Soil Test - Humates Review Request

Hey you never know, my soil is pretty awful so I bet 500+ applications might actually get it close to where it should be 😂

Re: Bales9er's 2019 Soil Test - Humates Review Request

Right, I've read the article but it doesn't take into account the new applications of the humic dg. It seems like there's a limit to how much humates should be applied so I don't want to overdo it.

One more question, how often can I apply the Kelp Help along with the DG?

Will do thanks Andy. Just the two applications for now and see what happens or is that good for the season?

Bales9er's 2019 Soil Test - Humates Review Request

Just saw Andy's post and would like a review of my soil test to see if the Andersen's Humic DG would help my situation.

Professional sports fields - pH maintenance?

Being that my soil is sand much like professional sports fields and I'm not having any luck raising my pH after 2 years of regular lime applications and OM additions as much as I can, its got me wondering how the professionals maintain the proper pH to keep their turf in ideal condition. I understan...

Boxwoods in acidic soil

Anyone here know much about growing boxwoods in acidic soil? My native soil is awful, beach sand with a ph hovering around 5. Not willing to pay the price to bring in all new soil so I'm wondering if boxwoods will be ok in those conditions or if I'm setting myself up for failure.

Re: Anyone Here Doing Keto Program?

Congrats on the success but do some more research on going keto and the whole mindset behind thisway of eating...high cholesterol is not a bad thing anymore. Specifically read up from Mark's Daily Apple (mark sisson) and you may be surprised.

Re: Accurate DIY Soil pH Kit?

Yeah I started with the Lesco but I've since found another supplier that has their own PR blend And have been overseeding with that. But I agree I had some large areas of winter kill last year expecting it again this year but I guess it all depends on the Temps.

Re: Accurate DIY Soil pH Kit?

In a strange twist this conversation my research on aluminum toxicity actually mentioned that you can apply aluminum to a soil that has high pH to lower it. I don't know how accurate that is or how easy that is I would imagine you have to be very careful but maybe worth looking into? Someone with a ...

Re: Accurate DIY Soil pH Kit?

pH hovers around 5, i have beach sand for soil with a TEC of 1.5. I have concerns of aluminum toxicity as the ST6 members helped point out in my last soil test analysis. I'd like to test a couple of real problem areas that just dont sustain any growth to compare with the rest of the lawn and basical...

Accurate DIY Soil pH Kit?

Anyone use a DIY soil pH kit that you've found to be pretty accurate? Id like to start testing my soil on a regular basis but don't want to send it out everytime. Ive seen them at the big box stores but not sure how accurate those are.

Re: Sourcing Sulfate of Potash and Urea in Massachusetts

Atlantic golf & turf in Turners Falls, MA has a fairway grade SOP which is great, similar prill size to milorganite/baystate. That's where I get mine, although its a bit of a hike from North Attleboro.

Re: Mowing Choice For Seedlings

All valid points, but I guess my biggest question was really just how the additional weight of a riding mower vs a push/reel mower affects the seedlings, if at all (ie: matting them down, permanent losses, etc). Easiest way I can re-word my thought/question is to present a scenario: Two wide open, f...

Mowing Choice For Seedlings

I've seen a lot of thoughts on this here on the website about not using a riding mower and being very delicate on new seedlings when mowing. I think at this point it's more personal opinion than a hard fast rule and I'm wondering if some of us make too much about it. I doubt that all of the professi...
