Re: Alternative to Fall Nitrogen Regimen
I wrote the Fall Nitrogen Regimens thread based on my research (and fiddling around with variations) over 8-10 years. What I learned and found most effective is what is on the first few postings in the thread - the rest is questions answered and fine-tuning performed. The reason for the "every week ...

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens
I'm a little puzzled as to how you came up with the 0.2 lbs/K rate - that will deliver a little less than 0.1 lbs/K on of Nitrogen applied. It hardly seems worth the effort. Logic?

Re: Fall Nitrogen Regimens
Foliar feeding (what you're describing is at much lower levels. and material used (Urea) should not be applied at rates described here.

Re: Aeration & Over Seeding
There isn't much in the way of heavy clay soils in MA, except for places where the topsoil (if you can call it that) was removed by a builder and not replaced. If you've done a soil test and gotten a Total Exchange Capacity (TEC) number, please post it. As others already said, Aeration is not needed...

Re: FAS results time frame?
FAS is very effective and fast acting (overnight?) when the grass is actively growing. It does not work if the grass is dormant or ill. Due to the "fast-acting" and need to repeat applications in as little as three weeks, it's almost fair to call it a nice cosmetic treatment when you know that the g...

Re: Weeping Cherry Tree
Was there any visible bark damage? My son lost two weeping cherries to deer eating the bark (or doing a a deer rub), but they were younger specimens a He put up a "drainage tube" collar on the new trees, and has lost nothing since.

Synthetic chemicals may break down over time, but the items that are naturally occurring will be the same substance thousands of years from now, They may clump up a bit, but that's fixable with "persuasion" (read: a hammer).

Re: How long after applications should I Soil test?
I generally say 5-6 weeks, but natural/organics can lengthen that out a bit - maybe 8 weeks. So can humic/fulvic acids. should I test soon to correct the ph This is probably the 500th time we've gone over this - pH by itself is meaningless. It's all about HOW YOU GET TO THE pH that matters. You can ...

Re: Japanese maple
You do understand that if you don't know what variety it is, the assumption would have to be that it's NOT a dwarf tree, and planting it 3.5 feet from the house is a terrible place for a tree that will grow to 12' to 15' tall (and the canopy will be roughly equal to the height).

Re: Japanese maple
A couple/few questions:
1) What is the variety of the Japanese Maple?
2) Show much have you been watering it?
3) When you bought it, was it in direct sunshine, or shaded by other trees?

Honda Creates 151-MPH Lawn Mower. Why? Because They Can
Want to get the lawn cut a bit faster? Well, here's a lawn mower that Honda has created that goes 151 mph, and can wander off autonomously in search of a recharging station. Why did they create something like that? To prove that they're Honda and can do engineering demonstrations that others wouldn'...
