Re: Bermuda Lawn in Marble Falls, TX
Update and some more questions: The lawn is looking real good. Still a few light spots, but overall I can notice a big improvement over last year. I am itching to get it aerified. TW, you said to wait until Memorial Day, so I'm thinking next week. Here are my questions - I think you mean 'aerated.'...

Re: question on #8
Are you asking about sand to get ready for the renovation...some time in the future (like fall)?

Re: Soil test results, any sugestions?
I don't see anything that tells me why you have the thatch. How long are you watering when you water once a week? If you tell us you're watering for an hour each time, then I'm going to punt and ask for a soil test. Oh, you already did that.

Playing sand should be fine. How much do you have to level?

Re: Soaker Hose to water lawn
Cotton farmers in West Texas have drip systems covering thousands of acres (which makes it a little more expensive to come through their property to build a utility pipeline).

Re: Soil test results, any sugestions?
I'd like to know what caused the thatch in the first place? With that in mind I have some questions. How have you been watering over the years? Before you started using organic fertilizer, what was your fertilizer of choice and how often did you apply? When you aerated, did you 'work it to death' or...

Re: Maintenance Program
It is not slow because of carbohydrates (I refuse to call it carbon). Sugar is high in carbohydrates and it decomposes very quickly. The problem is the carbohydrates are in the form of cellulose glued together with lignin. Those decompose slowly. But that's neither here nor there. Try the soaker. A...

Re: Soaker Hose to water lawn
It just seems so much water gets wasted with traditional sprinkling.....was hoping for a cheaper alternative. Are there any particular models/brands/types that are recommended for a modest sized lawn? I don't think there is a universal solution for sprinklers. I can tell you what I have learned ove...

Sure...what would have to happen is the fungi would have to penetrate between the clay particles with their hyphae. They only need to separate a few particles with the first 0.001 mm of growth. When the hyphae swell with water, they push the clay particles apart. When the hyphae shrink from a lack o...

Re: most behind lawn
When did you put out the corn? Attracting birds is not a bad thing at all. They prefer insects to corn, so you may have other things going on that are slowing down the grass. And you might not have the problems the other lawns might have later in the year because your yard is free of insects. Plus, ...

Hi Skizot. I would think the soaker would work especially well for clay soil. Growing the fungus is what does the job. If you have clay soil could you try it and let us know if it works?

Those prices seem on the high side but I've seen prices like that before. Even in San Antonio, the home of GardenVille, the price varies wildly.

Morpheus: You said: "I added 14 pounds of nitrogen last year, but it was 100% organic. I definitely wouldn't do that with a synthetic as you'll burn the lawn. Five to eight pounds this year will be enough." Do you mean you applied 14 lbs of actual Nitrogen in one growing season? If so, that is more...
