KBGKA side yard new lawn

I will have a separate thread for my side yard. Still waiting for irrigation to get installed and for garage contractor to finish the paving but today I hit the side yard with Round up to start fallowing. Here is what I’ll be seeding with midnight, blueberry, and prosperity as my mix. https://s22.po...

Re: The triv is tempting me...

One thing about certainty is I had good luck with it getting rid of some tall fescue in my last lawn.

However the lawn looks like doo doo for a few weeks after it’s not like wbg or tenacity the kbg definitely takes a hit but the result was worth it.

I highly recommend spraying the lawn with the miracle gro lawn food when you are trying to get things to spread.

Does anyone use Certainty anymore?
That and velocity are supposed to work against Triv and Tall fescue

Re: Which herbicide?

Fully agree but sometimes if you know you can’t use a preemergent due to upcoming over seed it’s a great product as quinclorac has some pre emergent effects for a few weeks and the label says you can seed one week after an application so it definitely has its place. Crabgrass is one of the easier we...

Re: KBGkicksazz lawn project

Here’s a picture of tenacity going to work on weeds in my overseed. This is 4 days post overseed and tenacity application. Based on study data I expect most of this crabgrass will die with the single app but lawn will get tenacity again after I get a mowing in. Temps have been perfect with rain spac...

Re: KBGkicksazz lawn project

What do you think this grass is? It’s near my mailbox and along the side of road and it part of the drainage swale.

It got hit hard with tenacity few days ago and if it lights up I’ll just hit it with glyphosphate.

Re: Soil temps and seeding

I used the miracle gro lawn food and sprayed the lawn couple weeks back and lawn seemed to come to life. I have great success with the miracle gro bloom booster for my annuals and hydrangea so I’m a believer in the liquid apps to get the lawn to spread. If you think about it it’s exactly how turf fa...

Re: KBGkicksazz lawn project

With the upcoming forecast and having irrigation I’m pretty confident I’ll have good success. This is northern New England and while we could get a hot spell it won’t last and I have the ability to water through it. The poor germination from the new construction seeding I did in May was not helped w...

Re: Greenrebellion's 2018 Backyard Reno

Using a weed puller is a good idea but also remember that Tenscity controls purslane.

Oops...went a bit too long between glyphosate apps, purslane took over the backyard and went to seed and now glyphosate won't kill it...might have to spend a few hours hand pulling.

Re: KBGkicksazz lawn project

Ok here’s the update. We have a 5-6 day moderate temp with rain spell coming up starting tomorrow. Temps for the next 10 days are 80-85 with nightly lows around 55-62 I have irrigation as well. I do t want to start over as the grass is coming in and spreading so I hit the lawn with tenacity and over...

Re: Tenacity rate and mixing

I have found it helps to keep the pump sprayer pumped up as much as possible to get the best results. It’s easy to get a little lazy and keep soraying as the pressure gets lower but stopping often and keeping a good mist makes it easier to get complete coverage.

Go to CVS or Walgreens get some syringes so you can get the dose exact.

1 teaspoon = 5 ml

1 teaspoon per 2 gallons

Re: KBGkicksazz lawn project

Here’s current lawn picture. Fair amount of weeds and I used a weed hound to pull a lot of them as can’t use herbicide due to upcoming oversees. It’s slowly spreading but I suspect t it will take the rest of this season and probably all next year to be full and lush. The fresh loam was to level out ...

Soil temps and seeding

I have about 1/2 acre of lawn to establish. I have irrigation but on a well so it’s a lot of water to do at once. I had a spring seeding as it’s new construction and germination was poor but weed control was not bad due to Tenacity and about 10 days ago wiped out most of the crabgrass with Drive75. ...

Re: Should I use Kentucky Blue Grass? Nuke whole lawn or spot spray Tall Fescue

What seed is on the label that’s a better way to tell you.

The fescues are more shade tolerant but deep shade not many grasses will do well.

How much sun does that area get?

Nuke and start fresh.

Yes you can mix the KBG with their sun and shade mix if you look at the label you’ll see it has KBG in it as well.

Thoroughly mix it though.

My seed down date will be Aug 15 for the front yard then the follow day or two for the side yard.

My work travel can mean adjusting days but these are the target dates.

Re: 2018 Renovators: Got a Plan?

Seed down date planned for mid August. Over seeding my poorly germinated front yard and will be doing initial seeding of the side yard. Hoping for cooler weather and rain be dry and hot this summer so praying it breaks. I also will reserve the lawn roller well in advance so I’m sure to have it avail...
