Re: First spring start-up
....I do my own every year and they don't even bother asking. Bingo - That's where I was leaning. I live in a town of 3,000 people. I know most of the city staff personally. They didn't care what I used for backflow prevention. I could've used a check valve for all they care, so I'm sure they're no...

Thanks for the insight. I'll just buy my cracked corn and be happy.
No thanks on unraveling that web. I'm a Mechanical Engineer... all things biological perplex me. That's why I'm truly appreciative of you and your experience Morph!

Re: Dog spots
Neither. Two dogs here as well, but no spots at all, except sometimes in July when it's really hot. The counter to heavy nitrogen spots is huge amounts of carbon. It's indirect, but bacteria love nitrogen (it's about 1/9th of their structure as compared to carbon), so if you have both C and N, you'...

First spring start-up
I had an irrigation system installed last fall. I did all of the plumbing on the house side and even purchased and installed my own RPZ valve. The company that installed it wants to come out to start-up the system for me and charge for it. They say I can start up the zones myself, but they need to "...

Dog spots
Every spring my lawn suffers from the aftermath of two English Springer Spaniels doing their business all winter long. Having had almost 2ft of snow melt in the last week or so, I went out and picked up yard bombs that were pretty evenly distributed. But the Springers like to urinate right off the e...

Re: It's March!! Time to Wake Up (and Happy Birthday ATY)
It's been in the mid 40°F's here for the last week and we're supposed to hit 60°F today with rain later this evening. Most of my snow is gone. Just a little left on the boulevards between the street and sidewalk, and a little on the north side of the house where there's no direct sun. I went pretty ...

Roundup class action lawsuit
Perhaps this isn't the correct place for this topic? Let me know.
Are you guys getting emails about taking part in the class action lawsuit against Roundup? What's everyone's general attitude about this?
Seems like this is a bigger deal for farmers, right? Anyone here taking action?

Re: New Install! Now what?...
I wrap my hand around the end. It's not efficient. It works. But I think you're going to be happier with your compressor. Actually, there's some advantage to the fact that you can push/pull with my shop vac. It still takes a while--about fifteen minutes for four lines--but it does work well enough ...

Re: Richlawn 5-3-2? Others?
Thanks for the response Morph. So regarding living in Iowa - I live 5 blocks from a feed mill (and the owner's daughter is friends with mine). I can pretty much get anything I need there. Further down the street is an Ag Supply company that has LARGE quantities of dry fertilizers (urea, potash, elem...

Re: New Install! Now what?...
Thanks Morph. I ran it for 2 days back to back at 1/2" each. Then skipped a day or so due to low temps. Then I set it to "Virtual Solar Sync" and it ran a couple more days at a ~30% reduction. Saturday I removed the outdoor RPZ and attempted to blow it out as best I could with my compressor until th...

Re: Sharpening my own blades; what tool to use
:good: That's what I do. Keeps the heat out of the steel too. Even when I had a big lawn and a zero turn, this is how I did it. And they laugh at us. Sure, you have more work to get it in place to work with. Sure, it's a little harder to do. And yes, lining it up and getting the filing right is som...

Thanks Morph. Here's the link. Soil is ugly. https://aroundtheyard.com/forums2/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=25477&hilit=Hammbone81+soil I didn't test it this year. Re: Surfactant before last irrigation?
Typically, my last app is after winterization as I spray iron in early November and there's surfactant in that in fairly large amounts. Tell me more about your spray applications of iron in the fall. Or year around as far as that goes. I assume its FAS? I bought large quantities of stuff last year ...

Surfactant before last irrigation?
I thought about putting this in the irrigation section, but its more specific to us cool season guys.
Does anyone put down a surfactant (ie, shampoo) before running their irrigation system for the last time before it gets winterized?

I am 100% fine if the lawn is thick and weed free. Haha! You say that "now".... thats how the lawn addiction starts. First piece of advice (at my old house) when I was trying to fix a problem was to 'kill it all and restart with elite KBG's'. I thought "No way! Thats insane!" Hindsight - that was g...

Richlawn 5-3-2? Others?
Is anyone using Richlawn 5-3-2? I have a local source that has it at a reasonable price. I'd say on par with Milo. Milo's high Fe isn't effective at greening my high pH (8.4) soil at my new house. It was awesome at my old house with pH=6.5. I'm already thinking about sources of organics for 2021. I ...
