Re: Complements from a stranger

[quote=gryd post_id=351306 time=1654374425 Very nice! Keep up the great work. What cultivars of KBG did you use? [/quote] Nothing fancy. Blue Chip, Blue Devil, and Blue Coat The builder had sod put down before we got here, so I had nothing to do with the selection. I did have an issue year 1 (2018) ...

Re: Complements from a stranger

Thanks everyone for the compliments! Here are photos from a couple nights ago, taken mid-mow. https://i.postimg.cc/5HSZ799W/20220531-201844.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/s1Nb0Nzx/20220531-203845.jpg It's funny. Neighbors are now trying to step up their game. 4 of them have purchased sidewalk edgers now. ...

Re: Complements from a stranger

Very nice! And you're welcome! But you didn't pay Lawn Tax with a photo of what they're staring at! Haha, that's fair. Here are a few photos to ponder: ( Note: When we moved here in 2018, our soil ph=8.4, OM=0.83%, N, P, K, and micros were non-existent. ) This photo is from about when the complimen...

Complements from a stranger

We've been in our current house for 4yrs. Bought a new construction spec house. All the top soil was stripped and sod was placed on very sandy calcareous "soil". Through lots of input from folks here, and a lot of diligent hard work, the lawn has turned around and looking pretty good. A couple of w...

Perfect! That's where my head was at too. I've got the product application rate down to a tee.

Re: Mulch bed edging?

We just spent last Saturday re-edging our mulch beds. I did it all by hand with a spade and this new "Kwik Edge" tool I bought off Amazon. The Kwik Edge alone will not cut a new edge, but I think it'll be great at maintaining an edge throughout the lawn season. I was about ready to buy a Stihl or Ec...

Spray Application

I was on the fence to post this here or in the equipment section - it's relevant to both. As we know, when we read product labels for sprayable products, there's always an application rate listed in regards to volume of product per area. Additionally, there's usually guidance on the minimum volume o...

Re: KBG Color Differences

I'm having a similar experience right now. I allowed the kids to put up a 10ft pool in 2020. I was reluctant, but 7yr old daughter said "you can regrow grass Dad! You can't regrow memories." Anyway, that spot has been replanted with some "psuedo-elite" cultivars, whereas the rest of the lawn was spe...

Leftovers?

I've been accumulating partial bags of products. Some I'll use again, a lot of them I won't. I need to clean out my bin Just curious, what do folks here do with your partial bag leftovers? https://i.postimg.cc/SXKj3QR3/20220511-124112.jpg I'm half tempted to mix all the organics together and evenly ...

Re: Mulch bed edging?

I have 2 acres and lots of beds, so I'm curious about what others do. Traditionally, I either use a shovel or just leave it sloppy. I was also looking at getting a bed definer to help out (link below). https://www.echo-usa.com/bed-redefiners edslawn, My parents have a Stihl Kombi system and they ha...

Mulch bed edging?

What is the best method for edging between the lawn and mulch beds? For years, my parents have just used a simple v-notch in the soil to hold the much back from the yard. I've been following their lead and have done that for the last 17yrs. However, every year it needs re-cut (not "too" bad of a job...

Re: Finding Urea in NJ

I live in Iowa. Farmers are going to start drilling in anhydrous ammonia soon. It was on the news earlier this week that all high nitrogen fertilizers are in short supply and prices are up.

SiteOne is still highway robbery. They've lost my business.

Re: 2021: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?

Going to put down 1lbN/M urea this evening (maybe upwards of 1.3lbN/M). Seems WAY too early, but temps are there, going to rain tomorrow, and temps will continue to plummet. I just mowed last night. Ideally I'd wait to make sure it's done growing, but I'm making a judgement call here and getting it ...

Re: Finding Urea in NJ

*In Iowa here: I picked up some for $35/gab (50lbs) last week (even though their 2021 catalog says $20). I have to drive 35min to get it. There's a SiteOne only 20min away. I just called them to pick some up for my dad and they told me $55.41. I'm so done with SiteOne. Last year my irrigation compan...

Re: Slugs?

They can be. Slugs and snails don't usually eat mature grasses except as a last resort due to the silica, but they'll happily consume your gardens and some shrubs. And they'll lay eggs for next year to eat those gardens. So if you have things that slugs will consume, get rid of them. Sluggo or Esca...

Slugs?

For the first time ever I have slugs in my lawn (the Phylum Mollusca kind, not F=ma kind).

Are they considered harmful or undesirable?

Re: Finish cut?

I have a toro 42" zero turn mower that weighs several hundred pounds. When I mow at 3 or 31/2" the grass is flatten by the wheels. I am using gator blades but also have high lift blades. Neither is able to lift the grass back up and I am very unhappy with the cut. When I was younger I used to walk ...

I just discovered this stuff today. Found this post after doing a search. Fleet Farm near me just sold-out of Milo before I got there. So I picked up this BCA All Natural Anytime Fertilizer.

Re: Finish cut?

Morph - thanks for the kind words. This lawn is 10x more difficult than my last house. But I'm on season 4 here and things are turning around. (Color and everything looked awesome in the spring!) Regarding Milorganite; that was my go-to at the old house, but I stopped using it here (except for as a ...
