Re: Testing For Red Clay in Texas
Give the forum a search for 'leveling' and you'll find the topic covered every way from Sunday. Sand is pretty standard for leveling. Red colored soil or sand usually means a lot of iron in the soil. If you had a bunch of it you could do a jar test (forum search). That would tell you if you the rati...

Re: Cut Bermuda Too Low (on purpose)
What you're seeing is the effect of letting bermuda get too tall. If you continually mow it low, it will take on a horizontal growth habit. Those prickly brown stems will be clipped off and only the flat growing stems will grow. Then the grass blades grow upward from the horizontal stems. After that...

Re: Anyone know whats going on here??
I might. I struggled with a disease for several years. It was caused by too much rainfall, but once it started it never stopped - for years. I bought new St Augustine pieces, and those got the disease immediately. I was completely frustrated until I listened to the local radio garden show. He recomm...

Re: Idea for patching
I have a beautiful mat of wild buffalo outside my fence next to the road. I mow at the mower's lowest setting to discourage weeds, but the buff LOVES it. Turns out I am allergic to buffalo grass, but as long as I'm not rolling around in it, I'm good. The Universities of California at Davis and River...

I'm not surprised the grounds didn't dry out in the microwave. I *am* a little surprised you didn't figure it out faster. If you've ever reheated a slice of pizza in therre microwave, you know that it gets soggier, not drier. I never tried to dry then out but if I spread them too thickly, they defi...

Re: Building the (Semi)permenant Home Office
New computer arrived today, so I had to get a monitor real fast. I got the same one as you, Andy. It's very nice! As for the computer, it's a Dell Alienware R10, the AMD version. My daughter's father in law is in sales for Dell and has nice discounts to hand out. I ended up reinvesting the discount ...

Re: Help-dying!
Hi Gretta. I'm 99% certain shade was the original culprit. After that you started loving it to death. I'm going to suggest you stop doing everything and relax for a few day. Don't water it. Just mow on schedule. That shady corner is destined to become St Augustine. I have a buddy in Gilbert, AZ who ...

Re: Did I put enough grass seed out for my new lawn?
Sorry I'm late. You made a mistake seeding and then after seeding. You seeded a month early. Bermuda likes the hottest soil it can get for germination. For example, in Texas bermuda seed hits the shelves in February. You can throw the seed then, but it will be several months before you get decent ge...

Re: What so I do about my first-time frozen st Augustine lawn in Corpus Christi—
With the freeze damage, I chickened out on the scalping I was going to do. I ended up with large patches where the St Aug did not come back and was replaced by dormant bermuda. No problem for me, though, I'M MOVING AWAY!! Even so bermuda doesn't bother me. The yard used to be substantially bermuda a...

Re: Building the (Semi)permenant Home Office
I just discovered, for those of us thinking of building a work station, that HP has a pretty good gaming computer at a good price. Currently it is hard to get an NVIDIA RTX graphics card for a decent price. Scalpers have tripled the price. However, at HP you can get the RTX GPUs on their pre-built o...

Foaming soap and killing wasps
Many of you might know that generally I am a friend of the wasp. However, we are moving and need to sell our house. The Realtor told me my wasp farm has to go. We have wasps on the front and back door sills as well as above the doors on the eaves. I thought I would be able to suck them off the nests...

Good to know. I'm not getting any hardware until after the move (is paid for). My last daughter has graduated and is bartending, so education payments are over, and we should be able to save money again.

Re: Windows 7
I delayed getting Windows 10 up until this past spring. Well, you're most likely doing the Windows 10 stuff just as they're about to announce the end-of-support for Windows 10, and a likely date of 2025. They are about to announce what is being called (not officially yet) "Windows 11". Best guess s...

Re: Windows 7
I delayed getting Windows 10 up until this past spring. My insurance company started requiring Win 10 security settings to secure their payments, so that was that. The transfer went a lot smoother and faster than I anticipated. After watching the transition to Win 10 in my office I was not at all im...

Re: Building the (Semi)permenant Home Office
As chance would have it, we bought a house in San Antonio and will be moving over the next few weeks. Now I have an opportunity to redo a home office. I will not be entertaining guests in the office, so it's just for the two of us. I like my current computer but the Ethernet connector blew out in a ...

Re: Should I be worried yet?
Bermuda seed should go down in the hottest heat of summer. Backing that date up into spring extends the wait until the seed sees higher heat numbers. You could put the seed down in February (when they put the seed in the stores :banghead: ), but it isn't going to germinate until the soil gets hot en...

Okay I just read your other msg about your being a novice with lawn care. Please take a few pictures of the yard from a few angles and post them here. Take one from across the street, too. The best yard pictures are taken under the clouds, so if you can arrange for that, it would be best. :) So let'...
