Re: Equipment recommendatons?

My two cents... Regarding the lawnmower, isn't the TimeCutter is a zero-turn? Toro has the Recycler and SuperRecycler (SR) line of walk-behind mowers. The SR has a cast aluminum deck, "clipping accelerators" under the deck that theoretically improve mulching, potentially better engines and self-prop...

FWIW, using Internet #205863766, my HD also shows out of stock, but they had an entire pallet yesterday afternoon.

DEAL: Dr Earth Super Natural Fertilizer @ HD

For those with the ability to store product off-season, my local Home Depot has Dr. Earth Super Natural Lawn Fertilizer (NPK of 9-0-5) on clearance at $2.90 for 18#. YMMV. https://s1.postimg.cc/6797jh8n6j/Capture.jpg I don't know the regular price. Their website has the 40# bag for $56, and Amazon h...

Re: Buying a new mower tomorrow

IMO, if the HRX is relatively recent and in good shape, you can't go wrong at that price. I would pick that up, clean the deck, change the oil and spark plug, either sharpen or replace the blades (depending on their condition), and verify the RPM is at ~3000 RPM. Based on current personal experience...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?

Cut at 2.75" and put down an extra app of Serenade (12th app of the season for a total of 39oz/M). Had planned to be down to 2.25" by now, but grass is growing too fast. Mowing every 3 days still. Typically we would get our first frost around today but instead it is 75-degrees outside. Neighbors dom...

Re: Final cutting height

Thanks everyone. This will be my 3rd winter with this lawn, but so far I haven't had to deal with snow mold. My primary concern is aesthetics and I prefer the looks of a slightly lower cut than most. Last year, with a different mower, I ended at 2.5"; this year I think I will try 2.25" and see what ...

Final cutting height

I was curious as to what end-of-season cutting height people are targeting..

I am trying to decide between 2.25" and 2.75" for my KBG.

Re: Honda HRX vs Toro SR vs Timemaster (new engine)

Cub Cadet has 3 "wide area" models ranging from 28" ($900 SRP) - 33" ($1300 SRP). I have never used a Cub Cadet so I don't have anything else to add; just had seen them on their website when I was researching mowers.

Re: Unusually cool August. When should I start thinking about Pre-Emergent?

I just sprayed it last night at 0.75#/A and watered it in today (dragging hoses for most of the day).

What would be the benefit of waiting? You could do a heavier app if it is your first of the year, and either way you are covered for the rest of the growing season.

Re: Dry Spot Experiment

@RockinMyLawn - It doesn't matter. The key, in your case, is to spread 28oz evenly over your entire lawn. If the undiluted shampoo flows through your sprayer, and you are able to get even coverage, then put the entire bottle in the sprayer can. How much the shampoo is diluted "in the can" vs. dilute...

For alkaline soils (such as mine), is ammonium sulfate worth the extra cost relative to urea? Getting ready to pick up my Fall supplies and I am conflicted between the two.

I have been waiting for someone to reply to your question since I have been trying to keep a layer of Serenade on my lawn throughout the growing season while also experiencing frequent and heavy rainfall. Since no one has responded, I did some quick Google searches... I haven't tried calling Bayer s...

Put down half-bag-rate of Milorganite, an app of Milky Spore powder, and changed the bags on my Japanese Beetle traps.

Re: Japanese Beetles found on plants... what to do?

The Japanese Beetles are becoming more noticeable (or I am looking for them now) and this afternoon I saw a swarm of them over a section of the lawn (which, 2-years after seeding, is finally starting to look really nice). Would appreciate feedback on the following approach: - Put down the powder ver...

Japanese Beetles found on plants... what to do?

I have found about a dozen Japanese Beetles total on various plants throughout my yard. I am not too concerned about the plants... but what should I be doing for the lawn and the possibility of grubs? Leaning towards Milky Spore... undecided between the granules or powder. Will either help with this...

Re: Received soil test. Need P,k

@Jiungerich - The 10-10-10 balanced fertilizer referenced by the co-op for establishment is typically easy to find, even at a Lowe's or Home Depot (sometimes called a "garden fertilizer") and would give you the P and K. If you haven't applied any fert in the past 4-6 weeks, you could re-do the soil ...

My experience related to Yucca is the opposite -- the work I've done related to BLSC2 showed that it is the most important component affecting water retention.
Is there an ETA on BLSC2? You've been teasing us for a while!

Re: Serenade and Aerify plus together

I think it depends on how much product you order at a time. But assuming a relatively small-to-normal order, I get $7.50 per gallon for BLKH, and $9.22 per gallon BLSC; if you drop the yucca from the latter, it goes down to $1.55 per gallon.

Re: Toro recycler vs Toro super recycler?

FWIW Costco.com has the Greenworks 80v at $450. Regarding the Toro, I recently switched from a Honda HRR to the Toro Super Recycler. At a $100 premium with the promos, I felt the SR was worth it. But, if I had it to do over again, I would have purchased the standard Toro from HD. I thought having a ...
