Re: Suggestions on grass selection (pics)

Creepng red fescue (I am pretty sure that's the main type of fine fescue I have, as it spreads up here in CT) does go to seed. In fact, mine is starting to get stalky right now. Here is a pic showing the seed heads last May. I have seen this grass take over for dead KBG in the original contractors' ...

The weeds have started to germinate. It may be time for some more starter fertilizer with Mesotrione.

Maybe we can get him into this thread! I have very limited experience with this.

Re: Buying Sod? Help!!

I'm also still considering the "grow it myself" and transplant method, either in another part of the yard or, more realistically in pots for just the small patches at this point in time. Any tips for doing this in the spring? Or is that just asking for trouble as with any mid to late spring seeding?...

Re: Buying Sod? Help!!

I really need a "crash course" in sod buying and installation. Any general guidelines to cover most bases? Late spring/summer is a bad time just like with seeding, right? Also, does anyone in CT know where I could locally order a small quantity and have it delivered? (I did see the HD/Lowes posts). ...

Re: Spreading Experiment

Well, I did go out and the grass at 11:00 that Gary took notice of (Good eye!). It was indeed lighter in color, and it was not KBG. Anyone want to wager a guess as to what type it is, before I spill the beans?

Right. I can't do that for a number of reasons though.

Re: Buying Sod? Help!!

I have heavy damage from dropped trees, trucks and cranes everywhere. I will use a bulb planter to pull a 4" plug, and will fill the hole with topsoil. The plugs will fill fast. I can't overseed as my cultivar is no longer available. It's make-your-own-sod-plugs time. That is what I was going to do...

Buying Sod? Help!! (Also Grass in Pots)

I'm toying with the idea of buying a roll of sod in May to cut up and redo the areas where I'm killing Triv. The thing is, I'm clueless when it comes to sod...where to buy it, how to evaluate it, etc. Obviously, I'd be looking for something with premium KBG and TTTF in it (since I currently have a K...

Re: Hey Triv....I give up, you won

Green, was that a blanket spray or a spot spray of those areas? Highly directed. Didn't want to risk killing other grass. I'll play... A couple of weeks ago, I hit as many of the isolated Triv patches as possible with a mix of Spectracide and CCO. 2,4-D concentration was ~1%. Within 2 days, this is...

I'll play... A couple of weeks ago, I hit as many of the isolated Triv patches as possible with a mix of Spectracide and CCO. 2,4-D concentration was ~1%. Within 2 days, this is what it looked like...a lot of brown. It's still brown 2 weeks out. It hasn't regenerated yet. I'm not saying it's a cure....

Re: Spreading Experiment

the grass immediately surrounding the area is bluegrass. Not so at 11:00 Why do you say that? I think the lighter color might be a lighting anomaly, such as IR contamination. The particular camera I used for this shot has trouble capturing subtle reflectance values accurately. Or rather, it's too g...

Grassy weed ID help, please

So I read the article, but I didn't see this one listed. It's very floppy and soft, almost like Orchardgrass, but it's not because the tips are pointed and it has prominent veins like Tall Fescue (which it also is not). It's also not Annual Ryegrass. Any ideas? I think you can see the auricle/ligule...

Re: April Lawn Photos - Turbo Growth Mode

Has anyone successfully overseeded elite TTTF into an established elite KBG lawn? Have any tips? I have been searching for a bit now trying to find tips/how-to in order to see what is necessary to ensure a good mix of grass, with nothing to show for my searches. I have midnight/moonlight/bedazzled/...

Re: KBG to TTTF Demarcation for Shade? Competition?

I would feather the seeds of the two species gradually from one area to the next, because the species do look a bit different when you're very close to them. Transitioning gradually would give you a nearly seamless transition, and all the grass would essentially look the same from a distance if done...

Re: Milorganite - How much and how often to use

Says so right on the bag! M contains a total of 5% nitrogen,3% of that is water insoluble{must be broken down by the microbes to become available to the grass over time} the other 2% is water soluble, available as soon as it is watered. So,for example if you put it down at 20lb per 1,000 sq. ft of l...

Why does that shock you? Almost anything you read about proper fertilization sings a similar song? Han, Not to divert too much, but I have seen it stated by you and others that Milorganite is 40% water soluble N...right? So, I wonder if it can volatilize like urea if it sits too long without water....

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/04/130425103314.htm Not sure how it'll do for a lawn, but, apparently it'll help control flooding and feed your sheep. Awesome!
