Creeping Red Fescue ID tips? And spreading?
Is Creeping Red Fescue the typical Fine Fescue that was planted here in CT, 30 years ago as part of the then-popular New England Blend (Bluegrass/Fine Fescue mix) that used to be so common here for new lawns? How can I ID one type of fine fescue versus another and tell if it's Creeping Red or someth...

Tall or fine fescue? Because Tall Fescue is known to have a little spreading habit to it. (As is creeping red fine fescue.)nothing0 wrote:This is too funny. I was thinking the same thing about my fescue today.. no pics.

Turf Type Perennial Ryegrass--stolon-like underground shoots
What am I seeing? (I don't have a photo at this time, but might be able to get one next weekend). My turf type perennial ryegrass appears to have some sort of shoot that allows it to spread and form daughter plants. These shoots don't look exactly like the pictures of stolons I've googled. But I've ...

Re: Grass ID: Fescue? Ryegrass? Something else?
Leaves look rolled, but with a midrib!? No idea what it actually is, but I'll take the bait and post this snippet of an interesting study that might or might not actually be relevant. http://www.jstor.org/discover/10.2307/2401351?uid=3739576&uid=2&uid=4&uid=3739256&sid=21101278571857 Could it be a n...

Re: Turf type Festulolium...the next big genetic advance?
Seems like it'd be a heck of a grass if they can make it work. How so? Pitch the selling points and benefits. From a hybrid vigor perspective. I have no idea what traits might be amplified and slected for...that would be up to individual turfgrass breeders. But one could conceivably create a grass ...

Turf type Festulolium...the next big genetic advance?
Hi, I'm glad to be here...I'm a new lawn aficionado with a scientific bend. Anyway, I have an interesting concept to bring forth... PR and TF are so similar that TF is apparently being reclassified as part of the Genus Lolium, that of ryegrass. The newly proposed Genus-species name for TF is "Lolium...
