Re: Goodbye, July!!

I'm a little north of Andy...July was hot and dry up in the Albany area. I was watering 2 times a week but things got kind of ragged and lawn started going dormant in the heat I ended up adding a third day to the watering schedule and monitored it...appears to have sprung back really well and then s...

Re: Sleepless in Rexford - Scheming

So I've moved forward and purchased 60lb of this blend..I have a large lawn, about 25ksqf...I'm hoping to overseed at a rate of about 2lb per/1ksqf. With some of the bare areas getting a bit more. https://i.postimg.cc/rDyyD9f7/SS5000-L155-M-18-KB500019.jpg I'm nervous in that it's a lot of money but...

Re: Post your mow!

Those of you who read my long thread on very very extensive grub dama (sleepless in Rexford) will know what I started with this spring. Remarkable turnaround even though this is probably a 2 year reclimation and slow repair but. Even before grub damage grass was very weak. I know I have dead zones t...

Re: Tell us about your experiences helping neighbors

This came up recently with my neighbor...I told him it's a labor of love. If you dread cutting grass then none of this is for you. Just keep paying.

Re: Sleepless in Rexford - Scheming

Update on the voles...I have no idea how or what happened but...as quickly as they came they vanished. There haven't been any new holes or runways in almost 2 weeks. I killed one fat one with a good old fashion mouse trap and activity stop.

Odd...

Re: Sleepless in Rexford - Scheming

In my experience, it never works out giving people verbal advise to do anything other than the most basic things. They simply dont execute with care and precision. I recommended my father in law apply triclopyr for clover. I wrote really explicit instructions. I dont know what he did, but he clearl...

Re: Sleepless in Rexford - Scheming

Forgot one more...this area was also very very week...only after one round of application of micros (boron, zinc, copper), triple 19 and milo the difference is huge. Not just the color but the grass seems stronger, blades thicker (not sure if it's true) just looks healthy. I'm amazed..! Yesterday my...

Re: Sleepless in Rexford - Scheming

A few shots from last night...you'll recall shot one is the same angle as previous showing the widespread dead patches. They are still there but are closing up...I don't understand how.

Re: Sleepless in Rexford - Scheming

Where can I find details on this trick? There are 63 postings on the site mentioning Castor Oil for repelling voles/moles. DON'T use the unscented stuff. Spring isn't the best time as it can wash off easily with rain. If it continues once things dry up a bit, I find it works maybe 70% of the time. ...

Re: Sleepless in Rexford - Scheming

P.S. not sure why but last 3 or 4 weeks voles have moved in...they are making the runways and digging holes everywhere and really wreaking havoc. I'm trying to trap and kill with mouse traps but that's a new front that's opened up on the battlefield of turf.

Re: Sleepless in Rexford - Scheming

Quick update: So I've been applying various items per the Logan soil test as instructed by Andy. I'm genuinely surprised and a bit shocked at the results after only 1 round. The grass is greener and stronger then I've EVER seen it here. If you recall, even before the grub damage it was OK but never ...

15K square feet yard! Wow! That will need a lot of maintenance. I don't usually advice to go for professional help. But in your case the yard size seems to be an exception. I will recommend you to hire a contractor for your lawn maintenance.
Can't believe this is a serious post...lol

Re: Why does my lawn tear up like carpet?

Have you checked for grubs? I heard this can happen if grubs or some other insect destroys the roots Last fall, I had confirmed massive damage from grubs...this is exactly what happened. I could very easily just scrape the grass off with my foot. Check for grubs. Many times also accompanied for pen...
