Re: Leveling lawn using play sand
Got it. I've noticed it's been warmer for the past 3 years. Next week's forecast according to my neighbor who I was chatting with yesterday it will be 80 in our area. However, I haven't checked weather sites yet.

Re: Leveling lawn using play sand
Cool! It's not really bad. There's only a small portion that I want to fix. I have another question. We normally renovate around mid August. September is almost ending. I'd like to take the risk of seeding new grass in 2 weeks. Am I right that It should still make it especially of warmer weathers now?

Leveling lawn using play sand
I scalped the lawn today. I really think my lawn is dead since I was able to easily pull them. Can I use the playsand from big box store so I can level low areas in my lawn?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Sept 20 Update - No signs of Life
s1mpl3k1d I live in Northwestern Illinois as well. If you overseed with perennial rye now, and begin to water it you can probably get it established. I had the same or worse drought than you, I have a perennial rye/kbg lawn that looks beautiful right now, and I never irrigated all summer. Whatever ...

Re: Sept 20 Update - No signs of Life
I can speak for Midnight II and some of its variants and relatives--my lawn is 40% made of those. :-) They survive summer without irrigation just fine, as I never irrigate and you've seen the photos. They bounced back just fine after this year. And do so without irrigation in the worst areas and bl...

Re: Sept 20 Update - No signs of Life
I scalped some parts today. The grass is like a leaf that's been dried for many months. It was so crunchy. The dirt didn't have any green blade coming out. There are parts of my house specifically on the north side where grass is showing well. It's the area where it only gets sun from 7-9am. I'm goi...

Re: Sept 20 Update - No signs of Life
The areas I’ve circled below...is that your lawn as well or Is it your neighbors? My first glance at this thread and I thought this was a renovation topic. That is 100% brown from end-to-end, much like a glypho app (RoundUp) was made. Not saying that was your intention, but that’s the appearance. I...

Sept 20 Update - No signs of Life
Here's my Sept 20 update. I've been waiting for weeks. 98% of my neighbors' lawn are all green and thick now. However, mine is still dead. Maybe because of grubs. It's because it's the first time this year since 2013 that I saw Japanese Beetles in my yard. https://i.postimg.cc/3k839tH3/20200920-1434...

Re: This weed doesn't get killed by Tenacity nor Weed B Gone
Mine too, lawn is 10 years old. I went outside again to calculate how much plugs I'll have to make if I go that route. Dead grass(if it is dead) is about 80%) and 20% of grass is 50/50.

We'll see find out in few more weeks. If it doesn't end well, I'll do this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fQ7K-DA2nk
I'm buying it tonight at Home Depot. I hope they are selling a product similar to this.
I think my backyard is midnight ii and emblem. I couldn't recall anymore.

Re: This weed doesn't get killed by Tenacity nor Weed B Gone
I went outside to analyze my backyard lawn. Backyard is 60ft wide. 30ft on west side, I'm starting to see blades growing but not a lot. However, on the right side(the pic shown on previous comment), no signs of life. Blades are crunchy too. I'm starting to lose hope because all my neighbor's lawns n...

Re: This weed doesn't get killed by Tenacity nor Weed B Gone
Spurge is a spring-sprouting annual, so spray pre-em when the forsythia sprouts (when soil temps start to warm over fifty or so). It's also usually got a heck of a taproot, so pulling it is...less than helpful in most cases. Painting it with RoundUp, however, works. I get spotted spurge in the gard...

Re: This weed doesn't get killed by Tenacity nor Weed B Gone
I yanked tons of them today before it rained. I still have tons more left, sigh! :( Make sure you are getting good coverage with your PreM as spurge is an annual. Sulfentrazone (Dismiss) will wipe out spurge. Thank you! I'll look for that product. I have a Prodiamine 65 WDG. When should I spray it?

Re: How many weeks when it's green again?
Update. I'm starting to see green blades on the left side of the driveway(not one of the pictures I posted but it was also brown). However, the lawn on pic, it is still brown with some green under the tree. Will continue to provide updates.

Re: How many weeks when it's green again?
Water combined with a fertilization should wake up whatever is going to wake up easily. There may be areas that are either dead (obviously never going to wake up) or in deep dormancy. A steady supply of water with a single fertilization should bring those around eventually, but multiple fertilizati...

Re: How many weeks when it's green again?
Andy,
Should I wait for the lawn to turn green before I spread the urea? I feel like I might waste it since it's brown right now.

Re: How many weeks when it's green again?
Quick question: You state you did water somewhat. Was this just to prevent it from potentially dying in an extended period without rain? Also, please continue posting updates as it recovers. Always nice to see the followups. Sorry if I was confusing. I watered it well 2x every week since early July...

Re: How many weeks when it's green again?
Mine has been awakening nicely in spots. I started some milorganite a few weeks ago and it started to green up. Still some spots that got hammered by full sun are struggling. Good! It's been raining daily now which is good. I'm really hoping to see some parts of it green by mid October. That will g...
