Re: indiana getting more white grub damage than in recent ye
I was digging in the lawn last week and was surprised to see the amount of active grubs. Chlorantraniliprole went down shortly after.

Re: Certainty in cool season grasses?
Thanks Bernstem. I was wondering if it might be effective against triv while not obliterating the fescue at a reduced rate. It's sounding more and more like I won't go down that path unless I can convince myself that my KBG would be able to fill in adequately. Did the older label have a recommended ...

Re: Certainty in cool season grasses?
OK - the truck crapped out and stuck in 4-Low, so I'm back earlier than expected. Certainty works reasonably well on Triv, but is so tough on the treated grass that the manufacturer (Monsanto) backed off on labeling it for Cool-Season grasses. It makes the grass look sickly and stunted for up to 60...

Re: Certainty in cool season grasses?
Thanks Jason, I agree, that's what I wAs hoping to find from those that have used it. If not, I'll stick to a ,more traditional approach.

Re: Certainty in cool season grasses?
Thanks Billybob. Yea, I think Andy and others have said they use it. The label doesn't give and application dosages for cool season grasses and in fact the do it yourself pest control Q&A says it's not for use in cool season grasses. I learned using mesotrione that dosage needs to be precise for man...

Re: Grubex down this weekend
I plan on putting chlorantraniliprole down tomorrow as my lawn has a history of grub problems. As I was digging some sod up for repair today and I saw quite a number of active grubs 3 or 4 inches down (4 or 5 in a square foot area). I'm now wondering if trichlofon should be put down too or in place ...

Certainty in cool season grasses?
I was doing some reading on various strategies to combat triv and the label I read for Certainty does not mention its use for cool season grasses, only warm season grasses. I think people with KBG are using it, though. Am I looking at an old label (on do it yourself pest control's site) or did peopl...

Check Skye, it also did well at the Rutgers site and I think is a bit darker, if I recall correctly.

Forsythia is in full bloom in my yard. Put down dithiopyr Sunday, and I too was hoping for rain today but only got a sprinkle of less than 1/10 of an inch. Just turned irrigation on since the forecast isn't calling for rain anytime soon.

Re: What did you do to or on your lawn today?
This may be a stupid question, but won't the Halts prevent the seed from germinating or does pendimethalin not have an effect on grass seeds? I believe pendimethalin will prevent seed from germinating so I don't think you would want to use Halts or anything with pendimethalin if you were seeding. S...

Re: Overseed PRG lawn with KBG
My lawn was established when the house was built in '57. It was and still is a mix of KBG, PR, and FF. I didn't want to do a full renovation when I started this "lawn stuff" last year so I overseeded with a mix. I'm not saying the yard looks anywhere as good as a monostand or blend of the same type ...

Sprayed dithiopyr on about 18000 sq ft, put down Siduron (about 1500 sq ft) where I am trying to put some seed down in a couple area, started 8 or 10 pots for use in repair. I'm beat, just watching The Masters now.

Re: Neon green spots
My personal opinion is to never, ever give it a break. If it seeds, it will be back from seeds in your next reno. My fight lasted six years and I'm still not 100% clear (probably the seed bank is far from exhausted). Buying seed that isn't sod-quality seed is begging for Triv. One man's opinion. I'...

Re: Pre-emergent for Norther Mix Lawn (Fine Fescue with KGB)
Hey Steve. I don't think a lot of people here have fine fescue so you might not get much feedback. I'm relatively new to this but I do have a northern mix of KBG, FF, PR. My belief is that ff may well get more stressed by pre emergence than KBG or PR. I base that my observation that the ff was stres...

Re: New member with a couple questions...
Hey Nathan. Couple quick comments, MSU is going to tell you mid June grub control is okay if it is imidicloprid, but too late if it is chloramtraniprole , the latter is mid April to mid May in your area as per MSU extension services. Second, a lot of folks here don't like an early spring nitrogen fe...

Re: nj Central north, pre emergent soon? last yr 4/8 this yr
VV, I think Dimension has some post emergence effect in that it'll control or impact crab grass until the first tillerinng so that's a benefit. On the Rutgers soil temp page it looks like nowhere in NJ is at the mid fifties yet. Is the forsythia blooming?

Re: nj Central north, pre emergent soon? last yr 4/8 this yr
Forsythia still not blooming and soil temps mid to high 40s so PM is a week or so away I'm guessing. Going to use dithiopyr (Dimension) on most of the yard at a 1.5 pint per acre rate and mesotrione on an 800 sq ft hell strip on the other side of the driveway at 4 oz per acre rate where I want to tr...

Re: Seeing Poa and Rye -Good thing!!
Agree, I have a lot more poa annua than I thought I might--I put down PM in the fall hoping that would reduce it. I also see some poa trivialis in the back where I stupidly put down some landscape seed a couple years ago that was left over from my dad. For the annua, I'm thinking of hitting it with ...

Re: 2015 Grub Control and Timing
Thanks NC. What's amazing to me is that Scotts still didn't change the packaging for Grub ex, large lettering on the bag still says what it did when imidicloprid was the AI. Lots of people will unknowingly put this down in June and July. Last year I finally got someone to admit at Scotts that it's m...
