Re: Lawns are light green lately
This is normal this time of year, especially if you have something like Bedazzled in your mix. Its about 50% lighter when it hits the growth spurt now. Add-in seedhead production and my front lawn always looks light this time of year. I'm probably pushing 40-45% KBG for the front lawn now, which wa...

Re: Another ID Thread - Fast Growing Grass Like
I've never seen ff outgrow tttf, rye, kbg mix. Ff is a slow grower. Not sure what that is, I guess it could be some variation of fine fescue. That fact that it is outgrowing your other turf grasses and the way the blades look has me not convinced. [ Post made via Android ] http://aroundtheyard.com/...

Re: Another ID Thread - Fast Growing Grass Like
I don't know, but if you read the OP's original post carefully, this doesn't sound like FF. This growth has been going on for weeks. I thought maybe they were seed stalks, but the pics show few, if any, fine fescue blades, it's all stalks. Does any turfgrass seed this way? Maybe poa annua is the ex...

Re: Another ID Thread - Fast Growing Grass Like
I'm sticking with fine fescue for now. Those stalks are nearly like daggers, at least on mine...
The key is, those are not blades, but stalks that will produce seeds if allowed...sort of like rolled up grass blades.
Granted, it could be someting else. But it looks just like mine from the third pic.

Re: Another ID Thread - Fast Growing Grass Like
This is the first time ever I have disagreed with tiemco. Initially I was going to guess annual rye. But after looking at the pics, it looks exactly like my (currently seeding) creeping red fescue. I just mowed it today, so I don't have pics unfortunately. It's been growing stalks like crazy the pas...

Re: Lawns are light green lately
Well guess what?
After 2.5 days of rain following 3.5 weeks or so without any, my lawn is now medium green again. Most other lawns in the area are still light green though...and I see none that are dark green at this time.

Re: Fungal outbreak on Poa Supina
Unfortunately I was unable to mow my supina before the two days of rain. This coupled with the trees being fully leafed has caused a fungal outbreak throughout most of the lawn. This grass is so dense that it just doesn't dry out in the shade, especially when the weather is humid and it is too long...

Lawns are light green lately
So, the past week or so, all the lawns around here, even those that were the darkest green 2+ weeks ago, are all now medium to light green...even after yesterday's and today's rain! Anyone have an idea why this is? -Lack of rain? -Seed heads? -Fast spring growth? -In need of N? Is this normal for th...

Re: KBG seed heads?
I would like to know if these are indeed KBG seed heads or something else. Can someone positively identify them? Re: Neighbors scalping my lawn. Confront or not?
That's one reason. But what about the ones who scalp it at least once or even twice per week, mowing at under 1 inch each time?mattya wrote:So that they don't have to cut as often.Green wrote:Why do so many people scalp? I see it everywhere, too...including my neighbors.

I have shampoo with SLS...and I have some time next week. So I'll do it then.mattya wrote:I would try a heavy app of SLS, especially if there's isolated spots. The grubs possibility is something I would investigate too - Might as well cover all your basis.

Re: Anyone Else in CT had to water a lot lately?
When the blades go brown due to being dried out, are those blades totally dead forever? Or can they continue to grow from the bottom after irrigation?

Re: Anyone Else in CT had to water a lot lately?
The ET rates have been very high; my weather station is in my backyard but has been showing ET average .13 inches/day. I think in April we had ET of about 3.5 inches and 1.3 inches of rain. Is that the amount of water that gets sucked up by the air? I believe it. I feel like there is more UV penetr...
