Re: Dormant Seeding Work for you.

I've been considering buying a Garden Weasel just for this task - could always just hand cultivate once seed down (but I'm getting old and bending over ain't fun) Ha. I can't correlate the possibility however, that the timing of dormant seeding and the a-typical winds/seed getting displaced/scattere...

Dormant Seeding Work for you.

Patching bare spots for me worked best with established pot plugs. Seeded in pots/grew throughout summer, transplanted plugs in fall to bare spots. Overseeding bare spots in early fall does work - between the germination time with KBG, roots, establishment, etc, the pot plugs seemed to work out bett...

Spot seeding . Yes, was considering as a option to just tenacity 18 inches out per spot and the rest would ger prodia. Wasn't sure if others have just applied it and their experiences on young blades

Re: Is fall happening or not??

I think last Wed it was 90 . This wed, it's 56G , cloudy and wet. Maybe it's just me but seems like spring/summer or later summer/fall/winter, seems like the fast transitions and all I've ever noticed is the looong dog days of summer. Between that, it heats up fast and transitions from hot to cold f...

Re: A No Feed Lawn

On the hellstrip that I reseeded, with no irrigation..... I guess I will try 50/50 strip. One fed and see how much the other declines over the course of a season. I know I won't have extra compost on hand....but will try to just topdress the *unfed* portion for it's 1st year - as well as some alfalf...

A No Feed Lawn

Off topic or on... For our shrubs / flowerbeds, I primarily use compost as my mulch (albeit, I never have enough) The only thing that does get a feed yearly , is the roses, with a good handful of alfalfa in the late spring. Since discovering this forum, I can see there are some lawncare diehards her...

When I was reading up on Tenacity, I thought Tenacity did not play well with Fescue.

Re: Spring Interest - BULBS

Yeah, the area where I've designated the bulbs are is not for the masses on upkeep. Braiding the daffidol leaves is a option but it does rob energy for the bulb energy so I let them stay green for 7 weeks before the get mowed down. During those weeks I am on my hands and knees with a pair of ARS hed...

Spring Interest - BULBS

I know the fellas at ATY are focused on your green lawns... Who else here plant's spring bulbs (crocus/daffidols) under the lawn in certain areas just to have some nice spring interest bloom after a long wet winter. Or are you guys afraid it's going to mess up the lawn ;-) In one area, I've got at l...

Re: Is fall happening or not??

The weather sure has been wacky this whole year Maybe this weather pattern is the -new norm- . Who knows... Some of my annual flower beds, I've had to replant from scratch. Very wet spring, original plantings stunted or root rot. Lawn loved it though Last year, every weekend, we we're saucing up tom...

Re: Transplanting Plug Pots

Looks like I'm going to have to -sipe- the roots when I transplant. While not root bound, they have bottomed out on majority of the pots.

-when I buy shrubs from the nursery, I generally even root wash the medium off-

Re: Is fall happening or not??

I have no idea what the insect looks like. It looks like a medium sized cockroach with wings... Anyhow, it's been so hot lately, these particular ones have been coming back everytime I've put the hose on it. Not only do they swarm to the surface water, but I've got holes in my seeded hellstrip bed. ...

LOL. Been keeping the hellstrip on the sidewalk watered.....tired of dragging the hose. Been watching the weather forecast like a hawk since Labor day. Feels like it's been like zero precip, aside from the morning dew

K. I get it now . PGR can mean both slow or -fast-

I’ve always considered the wording of PGR more on slowing down of growth .

Re: Alfalfa is slow release

Am I reading the terminology right ? Or I'm interpreting growth promoter as different then PGR. When I think of PGR, similar to how a nursery/greenhouse would use PGR to delay certain plants from growing so that it *finishes off* at the right timing for bloom times on Mothers days, etc. Growth Promo...

More reading googling to do. I was googling triacontanol and found one or more threads that said it also is somewhat of a PGR ?
