Re: Weeds or overseed?
Yeah, the weeds in my yard are definitely not dormant either. Slowing down some, probably, but I killed a bunch in the back flower bed over the last few weeks when it was hot. The straggler clover, chickweed, etc. in the lawn are growing just fine. Going to wait til fall too and maybe handpick here ...

Re: Weeds or overseed?
1. Seems like a good idea. Although some of those weeds may require more than one application to control. 2. Fall is a good time to tackle weeds. It's also the best time for seeding. We won't be able to really tell you if you should overseed or not based on that question. Does it need it? If you do,...

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
Temps are supposed to cool off into the 80s for the next week or so with some rain, so I finished up planting the last few of my spring landscaping plants.

I'm in for 2018. Doing my ~3500 sqft backyard with a blend of Bewitched, Mazama, and Blue Velvet kbg.

Re: KBGkicksazz lawn project
I have a couple spots where there’s little to no seedlings so I’m going to seed those areas and roll it in. The lawn just has very thin seedlings evenly distributed except for a couple areas. So it’s hard to be patient and not want to overseed lol. Just very thin growth and not sure why as irrigati...

Re: Watering Scenario
I'm in St. Louis and we get hot weather too. It's supposed to be 96 tomorrow, 98 on Saturday, and 96 on Sunday. I try to water before the heat when I can. I watered this morning and probably again on Monday or earlier if it needs it.

Re: Pricing for corn, soybean, and alfalfa
Hey neighbor! Alfalfa and cracked corn I get from the Rural King in Wentzville. They have sales sometimes that make it a bit cheaper. They also have milorganite for $10ish a bag, which is the cheapest I've found in the area, and urea for a good price. Soybean meal I've only found at Fenton Feed Mill...

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
Upped the watering frequency since its been super hot lately. Highs in the upper 90s but not as humid as it can get. It doesn't usually get this hot this soon. It may be one of those brutal summers. The new kbg is handling it pretty well but one area gets the greyish "water me" tone quicker than the...

Re: Should I Reno?
Yeah, it's difficult to say why grass is darker or looks different than another. There's just so many variables. I have some spots of tttf in my yet to be renovated backyard that are super dark, darker than the premium seed I planted in the front two years ago, and others that are lighter. Better so...

Re: KBGkicksazz lawn project
I wouldn't reseed until you stop seeing new germination for a couple days. I also wouldn't put the starter down yet. I agree with your last thought and would make sure you're keeping the soil moist enough since it's looks dry from the pics. You want to keep it evenly moist, meaning it doesn't dry ou...

Yep, slime mold. I have some that accumulated into quarter-size globs on the leaf blades. Super weird, but harmless.

Re: llO0DQLE's 2018 Bewitched Monostand Front Lawn Reno
I only had minor washout from rain, so ymmv, but what I did was spread it out and left it after that. It turned out fine for me. Maybe let it dry until it's workable but not too much, spread it out best you can, and reevaluate for areas that need spot seeding.

Re: Class of 2017 Graduation Pictures
Bewitched, Mazama, Blue Velvet KBG blend in St. Louis. Needs to thicken up some and find in a few spots, but I'm impressed so far. I've been cutting at 4 inches now that the weather is getting hot, but looks better around 2.5. It's catching up to my two year old TTTF front yard and I already see the...

Re: Award KGB in the Transition zone
Your lawn looks great! Nice job! I take what local "lawn pros" say with a grain of salt to say the least. They push quick and easy to average Joe homeowners. Once you start talking to them about things discussed on this forum, like KBG in the transition zone or soil amendments based on a soil test e...

Re: llO0DQLE's 2018 Bewitched Monostand Front Lawn Reno
I premixed everything last night and when I saw my window of opportunity, slipped out with the sprayer and got it done in 10 minutes. No turning back now and can only ask for forgiveness from the wife instead of permission. This made me laugh and is definitely the story of my life recently. My wife...

Just curious, how big is the yard? Personally, I would go with the 80/20 soil and compost mix.

Re: Weed ID Failed Reno?
Potential undesirable grass aside, I don't think that first pic looks too bad for a new reno. After doing two, I've noticed that some areas lag behind a bit and don't look as good until the grass matures more and starts to catch up. Maybe feed it more when the time is right and make sure it gets ple...

Re: When do you start preventive fungicide regime?
For summer patch prevention in KBG, the optimal time to start is when soil temps reach 65 for a few days. For brown patch in TTTF, I start when it begins to "feel" like our weather is about to change to St. Louis summer. That's typically in early May when nightly lows start hitting the 60s. It also ...
