Re: Missed Memorial Day
I, too, was late. April was cold and wet here. My soil temps were on schedule with normal years at hit 50 at the root dept in mid-April near normal time, then dropped about ten degrees for a week or so. Have not seen that before. I typically do not drop Milo* until mid-May here, but all dependent on...

Re: Complements from a stranger
That’s fantastic. I was just thinking about Eastern Iowa soil tonight was I mowed. In Cedar Falls and the surrounding area, you had to dig deep to get through the lush, black soil. God forgot to put that rich black soil in Solon! We have very poor soil here! I'm less that 5mi from the Cedar River o...

Re: Front Lawn Discoloring
It's very unlikely that a soil problem would lead to deterioration like that in 2 days--it's something that's systemic and that shows constantly over the course of years. That's a disease or other issue. This is the spring peak (well, it is here; Minnesota is probably still in the future by a week ...

Re: Tenacity Pre-em
So, I dormant seeded last fall and while it was probably a waste of time, I want to give it a chance to come up this spring and use tenacity as a pre-em. I have a pretty typical NoMix KBG, Rye, and overseeded with TTTF. I saw in another post that 16oz per acre is going to hurt/kill anything that's ...

Re: 2022: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Put down prodiamine, checked on milo prices (now in stock, cheapest I found is $13 per 40 lb. bag), watched the afternoon drizzle come in, searched for the Donations Bucket for this site (help?). Wondering if we are really done with snow for the year.

Re: Fall/Winter urea question
Where are you located Flyin? I'm in the twin cities and I'm kind of in the same boat as you. 1.5 acres and doing the rain dance. I mowed a week ago and I don't think there's been much top growth, a tiny bit, but it's gotta be close to done. I'm just wondering what 5 days in the 60s will do as is fo...

Re: Anyone else done with "the milo" for the summer?
Yup. We've also been in the abnormally hot/dry pattern for this summer for most of June, with a record-setting number of days hitting the 90s (I think ... it has been 12 days). May was above-normal rain and temps, but not as extreme for temps (70s and 80s, mostly, which is above normal but was reall...

Genetically engineered grass cleanses soil of toxic pollutants left by military explosives
Not sure where to post this, but since it is University of Washington, I am going with cool-season grasses: "Large swaths of U.S. military land are covered with munitions components, including the explosive chemical RDX. This molecule is toxic to people and can cause cancer. It also doesn’t naturall...

Re: It's March!! Time to Wake Up (and Happy Birthday ATY)
Lawn was completely exposed one week after 4-6" of snow pack (more down by the street) melted way, then 2-3 inches overnight last night. Rolling over to catch another two weeks of sleep. @ronfitch When are you planning on dropping your pre-em if you havent already? Trying to decide if it's going to...

Re: Lime green patches
Fairly lightly. Probably close to the 2 oz/K rate, but I might go to 4 on a patch on the neighbors' yard where I don't plan on striking it again. As noted, I do use DMSO, but...be really careful if you add that. Really, really careful. Mask. Gloves. Goggles. Long pants and shirt. Shower instantly a...

Re: Lime green patches
This year, I have 2 teeny patches of triv, and 3 of annua that crawled over the line from the neighbors'. There are 300 patches next door (I'm actually underestimating), of which I sprayed about 25 closest to the line. I spray in April when I see it, and if it's still living (it usually isn't), and...

Re: Fertilize after snow?
Morph Been awhile since I posted, I am up in MN. Had 6" sloppy snow 2 weeks ago and now we've been in the 60's last 5 days with 3 more to go. Can I still drop a fall fert app? I dont have access to UREA, just Scotts products. Any advice at this point. After Sunday of this week going down to high 30...

Re: Frost: Right On-Time?
Expecting 1"-2" of rain here today, and an inch or so of SNOW tomorrow. The average first frost date for my neighborhood is Oct. 6th and it was spot-on ... woke up to frost on the morning of the 6th. The surprise was 7" of snow on Oct. 21st (even for the Twin Cities, that's early). October was just...

Photo number 2 is definitely a shepard, likely German. For fixing, I'd schedule a visit to a vet.

Re: KBG going to seed
Here, it was a dryer-than-normal April (just over an inch of precipitation, nearly all of it coming on the 29th) and a dryer-than-normal May (no rain until the 17th ... then nearly three inches over two days and another 1+ inch on the 27th). The seed heads all over the neighborhood have been going c...
