Re: What's this in my Renovation??

Hey CT, Looks like triv to me. I have a bunch of clumpy plants growing on my side yard that look just like that. Later it will lay down in the heat. It seems clumpy and upright enough to still pull out. I would do so and keep an eye on the area. I have TTTF in my backyard and I find it easy to trans...

Re: My UMASS soil test results - need advice

Thanks Andy! I don't see how my Ph changed so much since last fall. Is that even possible? I would like to definitely incorporate more organics. It seems like the lawn gets too addicted to synthetics plus organics improve the soil. Therefore I would like to go semi-organic at the very least. I'm obv...

My UMASS soil test results - need advice

Hi Guys, Below are my soil test results from UMASS. I also uploaded the entire report as a JPEG image at the bottom of this post. I’m a little perplexed that my Ph level is 6.7 considering the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station had it at 5.3 last August. I did apply 40 lbs dolomitic lime pe...

Re: Andy...You're not alone!

I'm not sure your theory holds true around here Andy. Most of my neighbors would have no lawns if it wasn't for Poa Trivialis. Some of them bag as well. I blame it on seed contamination years ago (when you dinosaurs weren't paying attention!). And Morph, I'm glad there's someone as clumsy as I am wi...

Re: Stonewall and Barricade

Hi guys, A couple point I want to make here: 1) I remember reading on one of the older forums (that many of us belonged to) that Dimension in liquid form was more effective. I don't know if this is true but I wanted to mention it. Hey, for that matter I'm not even sure how well these pre-emergents w...

Re: Andy...You're not alone!

My neighbor next door has an entire yard of Poa Trivialis. Fortunately I somehow got the property line wrong and I've been maintaining at least 10 feet of his yard. His yard borders the final phase of my renovation this summer so I'm going to renovate well into his property (he approves) so I have a...

Re: Andy...You're not alone!

a kill spot on the border or into my neighbors side is sure to be noticeable and probably not well received. I'm in the same situation with an area across from my property. There's a ton of Poa Annua under a large maple and I know the landscapers that maintain that property will blow those seeds ar...

Re: Andy...You're not alone!

I would love it to die in the heat but the last Poa that died in the heat on my property (in Southern CT) was 3 years ago. Maybe this explains why it is simply everywhere right now. I know it blooms in the Spring but I don't ever remember seeing this much. I can drive down my street and see entire y...

S1mpl3k1d,
Let us know how the torch works. Are you using a regular propane torch or a Weed Dragon Garden Torch?

Re: Pics and questions from Phase 1 (Fall '08)

Thanks guys! I'll post my soil results soon and we'll go from there. I think my soil needs improvement and I believe the lawn got kind of addicted to synthetics last year which is why I'm willing at least to try a semi-organic approach and begin feeding the soil. I don't know if I'll go as far as sp...

Pics and questions from Phase 1 (Fall '08)

Before I post a couple pics I should mention that my renovation is a 3 phase/year plan. Phase 1 took place in Fall 08, Phase 2 was last year, and Phase 3 (to the right of my driveway) will be this year. Phase 3, by the way, will be smaller but I know I'll have much more Poa to deal with. I also shou...

Re: Request of lawn service

I have a nice old guy next to me as well. Loads of poa in his yard. As it turns out I've been maintaining a good 10 feet onto his property and didn't find out until recently. I plan to let that continue and even renovate into his property this year (he doesn't mind). Then I'll have a buffer zone (ho...

Re: Prodiamine...I'm Sold, Where to Buy?

I may have to consider using something stronger than Dimension as well. I don't think the dose I put down last August did anything to prevent Poa. How would one go about applying a liquid pre-m like barricade?

Soil temp for organic fertilizers

Hi,
I'm trying to learn more about organic fertilizers and I was wondering at what soil temperature(s) do they begin to work or work most effectively?

Re: Fallowing to reduce Poa

Gary,
What's to stop the Poa Annua from germinating? You are cooling down the soil and it should germinate along with the KBG.

Re: Fallowing to reduce Poa

August is usually just as hot around here so I think I would get some of that Poa Annua growing (in July) with lots of cool irrigation. On the hand I don't know if I have the guts of not preparing the seed bed again (right before seeding). The area is small enough, however, that I could topdress wit...

Fallowing to reduce Poa

I didn't want to hijack an earlier thread about Poa Triv but I have one more section in the front yard left to renovate this August (and maybe a small crummy area in back as well). These areas are loaded with Poa Triv and Poa Annua and I was thinking of nuking it in late June to fallow it a bit. I'v...

Re: So how does Poa Trivialis jump around the lawn...

I have 2k square feet on the right side of my driveway to complete my KBG renovation. There's a lot of triv there and I hate taking care of it at this point. I may kill it in late June to ensure I get the triv and so I don't have to care for it. My neighbors are used to my annual hay field!

Re: So how does Poa Trivialis jump around the lawn...

I don't know if a pre-emergent will help but from my experience it's very hard to completely kill prior to a renovation. Because it is a matted grass it seems to almost protect some of the mother plants. I've had some success spraying the matted grass, later removing it, then spraying anything under...
