Re: Light Green KBG in Spring only

I've figured the same because I also get the same, and thought the cultivar probably had some influence. I've never quite put my finger on it, either, but the Midnight II and related cultivars seem to come back a bit later than anything else (and always be darker). In my case, the Bedazzled is earl...

Re: Light Green KBG in Spring only

Thanks Morph. I believe you are correct but I wonder if cultivars may play a role in some KBG being lighter green this time of year. I have many dark patches growing vigorously from dog urine. Below is an image with dark green/blue KBG growing actively next to a light green patch growing at about th...

Light Green KBG in Spring only

Every spring my lawn darkens up in late April. The color of my KBG is pretty dark with the exception of small patches of light green grass scattered throughout my lawn (see Image 1). The lighter green grass has rhizomes and a blade that is distinctly Kentucky Bluegrass (see images 2 and 3). It is no...

Re: Raking prior to dormant overseeding

I wouldn’t disturb the soil. Bring down the mowing height and spread your seed before the snow. It will work its way into the soil. I plan to dormant seed this year as well.

Re: Gryd’s 2021 Mini Renovations

Seed went down late (mid September) on my renovated areas this year. Good help is hard to come by. At any rate I think it will be fine. The TTTF/KBG section is obviously the most developed. Also, I have 2 dogs who love to eat peat moss and dirt. I tried using clean straw to hide it from them but tha...

Re: Gryd's 2014 Front Yard Renovation Take 2

I decided to post a couple pics of my 2014 KBG renovation which was my best yet. The color is exceptionally good this Fall. I wonder if it’s the Vigoro Supergreen and Milorganite dropped in September or the possibility that it takes several years for KBG to show true genetic color. Lawn typically do...

Re: Gryd’s 2021 Mini Renovations

Greg, Assuming you're talking about TTTF as mentioned earlier, an 80/20 mix with KBG is going to be good at around 7 lbs per thousand square feet, give or take. I assume the 20% is the KBG as it makes little sense normally to do a new seeding the other way (with Tall Fescue, anyway). Ryegrass is a ...

You need to supply what the other grass type is in the 80%/20% mix, so that we know what the number of seeds/lb are. Also, which is the 80% and which is the 20%?
Sorry. 80% TTTF and 20% Bewitched KBG.

Re: Gryd’s 2021 Mini Renovations

Does anyone know the seeding rate for an 80%/20% KBG mix? If you have Scott’s drop spreader settings that would be even more helpful.
Thanks!

Re: Gryd’s 2021 Mini Renovations

Just to give you a heads up.... A lot of my poa-a already got fried from last months first mini heat wave. With temps way up, you might have poa-a and triv thats already dormant and won't be effected by fallowing in July. You will have triv and poa-a thats just waiting to come back when you start w...

Gryd’s 2021 Mini Renovations

Hi Folks, So this year I’m renovating some small sections probably totaling 1,500 square feet. I’m also over-seeding a strip of grass on the shady side of house with TTTF and Bewitched KBG. I was decimated with Poa Annua last year. My mistake. This was an area that had lots of Poa problems in the pa...

A little touch of Liquid Fence on the plugs might change the dog's mind...
Will Liquid Fence Deer and Rabbit repellent do the job or is there another formulation?

I tried Tabasco and hot pepper flakes. It didn’t work. My kids said she liked eating the soil around the plugs even more.

I’ve been using a plugger with good results to patch up the larger areas where I killed Poa Annua. Below is an image from earlier today.

Re: Adding Fine Fescue to Tall Fescue mix

Yep. Here's the "initial" shot from about twenty minutes ago. I'd mowed, rather longer grass than I should've, and just transplanted bits and pieces in from the edge of the gardens. Post this, I scattered just a bit of urea (around 1/4 pound N per thousand equivalent) and watered that spot for 20 m...

Re: Adding Fine Fescue to Tall Fescue mix

I should take photos. I'm currently following my own tips in a 10 square foot section where a shrub died and it doesn't make sense to put in another. That's the fourth shrub (and two trees) that didn't make in that spot. It's too wet. Which advice are you referring to Morph? Getting KBG to spread? ...

Have you considered using a shade tolerant KBG instead of a chewing fescue?
Yes. Adding 10 -20% by weight of Bewitched KBG was always the plan. Mazama is struggling to grow there. When I had TTTF/ KGB the Bewitched did okay. My initial observations is that Bewitched is the go to KBG for shade.

Re: Adding Fine Fescue to Tall Fescue mix

Just a few FF things to consider if you over-seed with FF, these are just from my observations doing few shaded areas in the front of my house..... 1.) Don't use tenacity when seeding, I was warned off of using Tenacity at seed down when seeding with FF. tenacity worked great for me on PR and KBG, ...

Re: Adding Fine Fescue to Tall Fescue mix

By definition, you cannot hijack your own thread. :-) KBG likes to spread, so do exactly what you aren't supposed to do. Keep it damp and feed it gently throughout the season. Just damp, not wet, so you don't even have to water it three times a week. Twice will do just fine, at quarter of an inch i...
