Re: KBG Color (and heat)...
Wasn't quite nighttime. But yeah. I've always done that with the KBG lawn and I've never had any real problems. I only water when it needs it though and that is normally every 10 days or so in the summer (Only did it three times this year total). It isn't any worse than when you get a rain shower at...

Re: KBG Color (and heat)...
Not a big Milorganite fan. I've got nothing against it. But it's not easy to find here (10 miles to the nearest Home Depot or Lowes. It's a special order at the local Ace hardware store (two weeks to get it delivered). So it's just easier to stick to the grains at the local Feed & Lumber (simpson an...

Re: KBG Color (and heat)...
Yeah. Well, my problem is partly my fault. The store owner asked what I was doing with it and I proceeded to explain how you can use the stuff for organic fertilizer. He, of course, sold the commercially branded CGM (corn gluten meal) for such purpose. But I told him that this stuff was much cheaper...

Re: KBG Color (and heat)...
Sounds like a plan. BTW, how much is a 50 lb bag of SBM for you guys in PA. I'm paying $20, that seems high (although they have to truck it out here across a few bridges). Well, with so much soybean being grown around here (heck, the farmer behind me was growing it last year), you'd think it would ...

Re: KBG mix for Northeast OH
My daughter & her boyfriend are doing the dethatch raking which gave me a chance to start aerating the back yard (which I am not renovating). Got one pass done and I am wiped out. Running a dethatcher and aerator in the same day is one heck of a lot of work. Especially for a weekend warrior like me...

Re: Fall Pre-M or overseed??
I really like Morph's suggestion. If you really want to seed and your yard isn't mostly poa annua, I'd overseed and then wait until early spring. In my area, the Poa seems to start growing much sooner than my lawn grass. It stands out because it is a real bright lime green. I'd go around and kill it...

Re: KBG Color (and heat)...
JG, I've been thinking about getting a soil test anyway. So, yeah. I think I'll probably do one soon. My reasoning was different though. My backyard, a monostand of Midnight II, looks great, except for a streak the runs the width of my property in the middle of the backyard. In that area, the grass ...

Re: Seeding window is closing...
It's been a very, very rainy year in the northeast this year. I wouldn't count on that changing. If it were my lawn, I'd seed this weekend.

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
could be sod web worms. But if you only see it in the morning while there is dew on the lawn, it's probably dollar spot disease. It's a fungus that thrives in in under-fertilized lawns. The most common treatment is to feed your lawn.

Seven, You still have time. You are just a few miles away from me. During the 2nd of my 3 part renovation, I didn't seed until the third week in September. That's pushing it a bit and I may have just been lucky. But I think you might still have time. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://aroundthey...

Re: can I overfertilize with organics?
Midnight II, Moonlight & Bedazzled I must have either read wrong or done some calculations wrong. and I though I was applying at half the rate! you and me both! Lol But I like the results. I'm sticking to that rate for at least another year. The extra OM has really helped the soil here and the eart...

Re: Emblem ELITE KBG *Groupbuy*
+1 BP. My yard was a horribly hard clay that would crack and look like the surface of the moon, if it hadn't rained in as little as two or three days. Since my 2005 front yard renovation, I've been following a similar procedure to what BP describes. A few weeks back, I created some new mulchbeds on ...

Re: Creating the Ultimate Drought-Resistant Lawn/Pasture Grass
This isn't anything new. Texas A&M created the first hybrid of Texas and Kentucky Bluegrass back in the 90s. Do a google search for Reveille and bluegrass. You'll find a million links (Reveille being the name of the first of these hybrid cultivars). The goal of the guy cited in that article is the s...

Re: Bermuda grass growing in New Jersey
For the record, I didn't indicate I was planning to grow it. :) but I'd have to disagree about it's ability to grow well. This wasn't a couple of weeds, the entire side of the road was made up of the stuff (and it's wild, tumbleweed like seedheads) [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://aroundtheyar...

Re: Is this Bermuda?
Wow! This was in Trenton, NJ. It seemed like the whole section of roadside there was Bermuda then. Who says this stuff can't grow in the Northeast? I had seen it at my parents in South Jersey and I knew it grew at the shore (the beach, for those not from the northeast). But I had no idea it could gr...

Re: Emblem ELITE KBG *Groupbuy*
I'm pleased my enthusiasm came through in my post! I've actually already done a renovation last fall in my backyard, it is a monostand of the johnathan green Black Beauty Tall Fescue. The reason's i chose it was because i read a NY Times article that that particular seed grows 6 feet into the groun...

Re: Emblem ELITE KBG *Groupbuy*
Lawnstriper, I agree with Andy. I've got a monostand of Midnight II in my backyard. But it's not something I would ever suggest that anyone else do (unless they're willing to pay the consequences -- like say a lawn that suddenly up and dies all at once). But if you do all your due diligence and are ...
